Not a single comment or sign up yet? Come on people, get on it! These events are a lot of fun...tons of track time, great instructors (if I can say so myself ) and it's cheap! Hope to see some members out there.
Um, the original post says sign up begins on April 1. Just sayin... I'll be there. Need a little test time with the new suspension.
OK - Payment will be taken via PayPal or Cash. PM me for payment details. If paying cash - I will setup a time for you to drop by the shop or meet up with myself or someone from NF. Payments must be made within a week of hand rasing for cash payments.
A shot from a previous event. Come and learn your car, learn how to track your car, and just have a good time!
I'd really like to do this but I need to ensure I can swap out a center differential before that time and the new center diff for the v7 transmission is indeed the correct part. according to part numbers I've found it's right but... if it's not I'll be transmission shopping I suppose. I'd also like to change out the brake fluid and pull timing belt to get at oil line driver side for avcs and remove the filter if it's there. Thats a lot of work for this garage mechanic.
Which car are you wanting to bring out? Your old car is still running strong. I don't think my sister will ever want to get rid of that WRX.
^thats awesome my old wrx is still going strong. hope it continues to for a long time too. I really want to bring out the wrx wagon. I could use the s60r in a pinch I suppose. All that needs is new pads/ti shims which shipped out a few days ago.
I have a 03 wrx stage 2 plus some but my suspension and brakes are stock. I would really like to do an event like this so my question is would my car be OK to run as is or is there some key parts that I should replace to make the track day worth it
Any car in good mechanical condition is fine to use. As long as you drive within the limits of your skill it will still be a great experience and you will learn a lot. Even if you took a stock Civic or Prius around that track you would still learn a lot. These events are a great learning experience for all types of cars and drivers.
That is a great question Matt. This is a driving school, so it is for you to learn your car. Actually, it is ideal to learn your car and see where it's weaknesses are vs just tossing on a bunch of parts. This is the best way to know where you really want to go with upgrades in the future. Back in 2010 I attended my first driving school @ BIR with the BWM club. I learned a lot about my setup at that time (09' WRX on E85 @ 21PSI and other bolt-ons). I also watched my friends with much less WHP lap me over an over agian when we got into the open laps of the weekend. Their experiance in RallyX and hours of seat time made up for the difference in HP and mods. Point of my story? You would be surprised how much power you can actually use on a track. Coming to an event like this is a great way to open your eyes on street HP vs track HP. I have had sessions at DCTC where a good driver in a Honda Fit in the A Class, was passing WRXs, STIs, RX-7 and other "fast" cars because he was a good driver. It was pretty awesome to watch. Oh right I had a point to all of this..... Come with the power you have. Don't worry about stock suspension and brakes. As long as you are not leaking fluids, you are welcome to join. We will put you in a class that has drivers of equal skill and power. The whole point of this event is to get in some good track time, learn your car and have fun. Once you get some track time in you can decide where to toss your money. Brakes and Rubber are a great place to start. I will always suggest upgrading this for a track car. However, why not learn the limits of your current setup before you rush to spend money on something you may not need. With that being said, I will always suggest fresh fluids. $20 (or less) will get you some fresh DOT4 in the system. An oil change and other fluids are also good for the car. Track brake pads are nice, but feel free to test your setup before you really jump into the track stuff. You would be surprised at how well a quality blank rotor setup with work vs the fanboys that try to sell you on slotted and/or drilled rotors. (just look at F1 cars) .... come out, have a good time and really learn what your car can do... or what it needs
Did Chong hack your account and write that? haha jk, well said man! Good info from @ofspunk7 as well. Come on out and have fun guys! I'm honestly surprised there are still that many open spots...this usually books up fast!
This is the first event that wasn't sold out the week we opened it. I know it will fill up. EDIT: Maybe we need more pics. LOL
A few thoughts/suggestions for first time participants regarding an event like this, or any form of track day. 1) As stated before, if this is your first time, make sure your car is in good mechanical condition. Fresh brake fluid is a great idea, and if you are replacing, spend the little extra money and move to something with a higher temperature range. Not necessary for the first time, but a good idea. Inspect your brake pads and make sure they are not excessively worn. If they need replacing, my best suggestion is the Stoptech Street Performance pads. These are a huge step above stock, don't create much more dust, and are good enough for occasional track use, great autocross pads, and great street pads. 2) Make sure your tires are in good condition. For the first time, don't worry about what kind they are. This is all about learning your car and becoming comfortable driving in an environment that is not the street. (I've done this on snow tires) Tires are one of the very first "modifications" I will recommend to anyone that will be involved with a motorsport event. (I tell everyone they need summer tires) Make sure the tire pressures are correct for your car. If running an all season, maybe even a little higher that recommended. Bring a tire pressure gauge to make any adjustments. You will be surprised what a couple pounds of air pressure will do to the handling of a car. 3) Look at the weather! Dress accordingly. Since this is an evening event and still in the spring, it will be chilly after the sun goes down. If it looks like it will rain, bring waterproof everything, including shoes. You will be outside most of the event, and being wet and cold make the experience miserable. Wet shoes and socks do not make for a pleasant drive. Trust me, when you are warm and dry you will be able to concentrate on the task at hand, which is driving fast. 4) Get plenty of rest and something to eat. This may sound basic, but can make a huge difference. Again, since this an evening event, and many people will be arriving from work, it is important to get a good nights sleep before, and be ready to go when you arrive. you want to be as focused as possible when you get behind the wheel. Being tired or hungry or thirsty will just be distractions. Distractions are bad. 5) Be ready to have fun! I can't express how important this is. Relax, this isn't a race. This isn't to see who is the fastest (Jordon...) This is to introduce you to the wonderful world of motorsports. Get you more familiar with your car, and hopefully teach you a thing or two that will help you not only at events, but in your everyday driving. I know I didn't touch on everything, and if anyone has more to add feel free. I am very much looking forward to this again.
This man speaks the truth! (I copied this for the Facebook thread) Great info. I will make sure this is repeated to everyone prior to the event.
I was looking for a map, I found this on the school website. This is very tempting to come out. Is there a possible course already mapped out on their track? My car is very stock, it should still be usable for this event? Their is no time on when its over? Also no helmet is required? It doesn't say that in the rules anywhere unless I'm blind.
DCTC is an awesome track. Because of it's layout (per your map above) we can really setup fun courses. I posted a few previous layouts that we used in the instructor chat I have going. We will have a layout in the next week or two. I am taking any feedback they want to give me before I produce a map. I want to take what I know and what others like and build from there. We used 5 or 6 different layouts in previous season. Stock cars are a great place to start. Learning the limits and weaknesses of a stock car will help you invest your modifications in the future based on seat time instead of what's popular on the internet forums. See posts above, we sort of went over this already. I am still waiting to hear an offical end time from DCTC. In years past it was around 10pm (see posts above). Helmets are not required as the speedlimit is set at 55mph. Good questions.
I'm in, what about you @Sjogun and @DoughtCom and @Neil Wise and and @tehfuzz and @Curry and @belalegosi ???
I'm working on the forester today. As well as the neon. I'll have both done soon. Or none. Innnnn if something gets done.
