Great progress! Thanks for sharing and we look forward to seeing more!

or maybe tilt it another 20deg.

A scoop without a windshield... I wondering how many birds that would catch at speed.

I'm assuming this will be a road worthy vehicle with lights and signals, right? I didn't read that anywhere in the thread. However, this is a super awesome build. Very impressive. I'm glad I wore brown pants today, because I crapped them when I saw this. And one other question... those are cup holders I saw in the center console right? Awesome!

Yes those are cup holders. I did not want them till I saw them. It comes with a lighting package that I have to install.

The car after mine wants a scoop. I am going with out for the beginning. I may fabricate up something myself. I would think a verticle intercooler might be the most effiecient option but not look the best. I am not all that worried about horsepower, so my first step will be just getting it up and running.

I started a kit carish project in college (www.heapv.com/build). Are you doing any of the fabrication yourself? If so, you win. I ran out of time/interest after I bought a house and a few other toys. I also caught wind of a new Factory Five kit from a connection and stopped progress/started making room.

The new kit that Factory Five is producing is designed around a WRX donor.

I saw that the other month. I was already into this one. I have always wanted the exo style anyways. Its great to see that Factory Five is getting into the mix!

I know people were talking about a lack of windshield in a few posts... I see on the tailor in the first pic and on the car in the second pic that there is a removable piece of cage that looks like you could throw a piece of lexan over it and have yourself a windshield.

There is an option for a windshield. That is what the black frame is for. I am going without, it just weighs it down. Plus if you have a windshield you have to have windshield wipers and defrost to pass inspection to get the plates.

I got a helmet, its a full face. That covers the windshield for me.

Anyone have any suggestions on a downpipe/exhaust?

The picture with the catted downpipe was something the builder had at his shop. I am thinking a non catted downpipe and a 3 inch straight through muffler. I am not sure how loud this thing is going to be. I am thinking of modifying the downpipe to use it as my whole exhaust.

You should just buy a turbo to downpipe flange and have a custom pipe welded up to it. I wouldn't go looking for anything off the shelf. Another option would be to turn the flange on the uppipe 90 degrees and face the inlet of the turbo side to side instead of front to back. I've seen that on alot of dune buggy/sand rail applications.

I got the little stuff done on the transmission. All of the power will be directed to the front outputs of the transmission.

BTW anyone know if the center diff is worth anything?

I have no idea. This was a used STi V5 Type RA motor and transmission. So far everything looks like it was well maintained. You are welcome to take a look at it and give me an offer.

Some updates. I got the engine fitted with the 04 intake manifold, new timing belt and some other maintenance items. So back into the car it goes to start working on running fuel lines, clutch line, brake lines, throttle, push pulls for the shifting....

If anyone was wonder, the transmission weights 100 lbs with no fluid and the center diff removed.
Playing around with the intercooler mounting.

I think for the exhaust I am going to go from the downtube into a 180, into chamber A, into 180, into chamber B, into tip.

Not to much progress. I have been on the road most of the summer for work. I am hoping to get some work done the next couple of weeks.

I have the shifter assembly all installed. Working on coolant lines now.

Finally got around to doing some work. Its a pretty tight fit in areas so I had to resort to using 1" copper lines. Made for an expensive cooling system.

I am a little worried about this. With the hose higher than the radiator does anyone think this will cause problems? If so I can always cut the outlet off and braze it on so it comes straight off. I had to do this with the bottom one.

As long as you can purge the majority of the air out of the system, I dont see why the hose higher should be an issue..

Looks fantastic. The pedalbox and associated reservoirs look good. As well as the black coating everything got. Have you looked into your registration yet.

I have done some research into the registration. It doesn't look to be too bad. The car came with an MSO (manufactures statement of origin). This helps a lot and I have all the receipts for everything. Hope to have it running under its own power this summer then comes registration.

With the fuel cells in front and if you had a front end collosion, does it go boom?

Where is the list to sign up for rides?

Movies =/= Real Life. A lot of cars have rear mounted fuel cells. Like Subarus for example. With that being the case, you'd think there'd be tons of exploding cars since most collisions are front to rear contact. Also, you can't shoot a gas tank with a gun and make it go boom. Fuel doesn't explode. Especially when it isn't under any sort of compression. A gas tank leak would just spray flaming gasoline around. It takes a considerable amount of heat to ignite it as well. Crushing an aluminum container isn't going to generate that sort of heat. Hell, you can put cigarettes out in race gas. Ask 6MTizzle (Pete). I sat in my driveway standing in a puddle of 110 octane throwing lit cigarettes into it.

I'd suggest taking some epoxy or silicone to every edge and seal you can find on that ECU.. they're not really anywhere near waterproof.
