I'm a huge newb, trying to get oriented. This is my first subaru and I LOVE it!!! I'd like to start some minimal engine and aesthetic mods... will '05 springs fit on the 06 2.5i? are there differences between the wrx and 2.5i suspension/engine dimensions? Are the intakes the same? What are the max wheel dimensions that will fit without rubbing on turns/normal bumps?

I'm gonna try to answer your questions...Please people correct me if I'm wrong...05 and 06 2.5i Impreza Springs are interchangable, the difference in the WRX and 2.5i Impreza 06 models are Aluminum Alloy Lower L-arm and front lateral Link on the WRX Sedan models. Other than that everything else is the same for the 06 Impreza 2.5i or WRX. I'm assuming your talking about the air Intakes, if so, they are different between 2.5i and WRX. As for your rims/tire...17x7.5 is good for 225/45/17, u can push it to 235, anything bigger might stick out like a sore thumb. I recommend if you go 18's+ to lower your car, your ride will look high (SUV).

I'm not getting in the middle of it in slic06's thread. :p

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the engine has the same layout as the WRX/STi/FXT/LGT, but it has weaker pistons, rods, crank and block (open-deck: cylinder walls will flex under extreme power causing blowby). Unfortunately, Cobb Tuning has refrained from producing engine and suspension mods for the 2006+ 2.5i but there are still some performance companies out there that are working on it.

Subaru remodeled your 2.5i from older model years from before. As far as I know, the 06 intake, exhaust, exhaust manifold, intake manifold is different. If you haven't yet, go check out www.rs25.com to see and research what modifications can be made on the 06+ 2.5i. Good luck. :)

you can go 17x8.5 if you want... and run 255's but its totally overkill. I have 17x8 wheels with 235/40/17 tires and it is more than plenty wide :)

^ you can always go that route...But again it is overkill, like deride said...17x8 would be good as well but I wouldn't pass the 235 mark for tires.

If you plan on using them in the winter, get a more narrow rim as well. Mine are summer only.

Haha. Yeah, hunnies and handcuffs all the way! Thanks guys, I'm impressed. You really know your stuff. I'll prolly have lots more silly questions... I hope you can bear with me until I get up to speed. So it sounds like a big diff between the WRX and 2.5i is the quality of the engine components? Is the 2.5i somethign that I can increase the power/performance on without replacing everything that moves? If so, what's the best way to do it?

Thanks Ray! How big are your wheels? If I go with either 17x7s or 18x8s, do I need to figure an offset? Nathan - u got 19's on yours? Any pics I could see? It's a tough decision...

No Problem, I have 18x7.5 offset is 48...I wouldn't go any bigger than 18in. Nathan is an exception with 19in. Since he lives 2 miles away in a straight line. The only turn he will make is in his garage. For daily driving 17ins. I think is perfect for the state of pot holes. Even with careful driving I still get road rash on my 18ins. I can get you some Rotas if you like those Rims.

EDIT: 04 sti strut/spring/top hat takeoffs are interchangable into any year wrx's, so they would fit into an i too I'd assume. 05-06 sti suspensions take-offs do not fit into any other impreza as of yet.

heres a couple.... the hardest part is getting the good offset for fitment.. to far one way you rub inner fender to far the otehr way you wreck your bearings real quick

Ray said 48 offset... I'm looking at 45 possibly? What exactly happens with the wrong offset? Will 45 stick out? What is the offset exactly? A measure of...?

The offset is how far off the rim sits from where it's mounted. (I don't know if that makes sense), but if the offset is smaller than what you need then the rims won't clear the brake calipers and that's bad.
What kind of Rims are you looking at?

    Width ...... Offset

    6.5" ....... +53 to +55
    7.0" ....... +50 to +53
    7.5" ....... +47 to +50
    8.0" ....... +43 to +47

depending on the width...If you go 45 offset 17x8 or 18x8 would be fine...17x7.5 would not be fine...at least 47 preferrable 48...Rotas are recommended @ 48 offset
