Apologies if this has been asked before, but my internet connection is making it hard to search on here (as well as other sites). I have a 2014 WRX hatch. I have a spare set of rims back home from a mid 2000's WRX (16's) that i would like to use for a winter set (figure it might be cheaper to ship them here than to buy another set). Wanted to know if they would fit my car before going through the hassle of having someone ship them out here for me. Thanks for any info in advance!
I think they should, looks like same bolt pattern just 2mm different offset which should be fine especially for winter tires which shouldn't be on the wide side of the spectrum... Thanks for all the info! Its looking like I may not be able to get my rims out here before the new year if at all. Since my current tires are cupped horribly and are loud as hell, I was thinking of getting some decent all seasons to replace them, and it would be a bonus if they can get me through until I can get my other rims (or even through the entire winter if need be). Any recommendations on all seasons that are doable in snow and fairly affordable? With a new born at home, money is in short supply
What size are your wheels? I've got a set of 225/50/16s (IIRC) that I'm going to be looking to sell pretty soon, once I swap them out for my winter tires... They're Continental ExtremeContact DWS all-seasons, and they got me through last winter Fairly low mileage and plenty of tread left, I'll be able to dig up more details when I get them off
Thank you very much for the offer, but I have the stock 14 WRX rims that Im going to put new tires on (17's), so I don't think your tires will work. But maybe Ill look into a new set of those tires since they were recommended.
You would be needing 235/45r17 tires. Anything with a ton of tread would work better than your cupped tires.
Thanks for all the advice, this is definitely one of the friendlier subaru forums out there. I think I am going to go with a set of Bridgestone's (Potenza RE97AS) in the near future. Tires Plus has them for a decent price and figured I could use my card (6 months no interest helps). Reviews seem to be very good and they have to be better in the snow than the stock summer tires. Recommendations are still welcome though!
The continentals previously suggested are highly recommended. They are cheaper than the Potenza's and they have a better wear rating. You might consider some of the tires that have rebates as well. This has been said many times before. If you can swing it, get a dedicated set of summer and winter tires. My recommendation would be to put a set of good winter tires on your existing wheels, or pick up a set of used wheels and winter tires. Then come spring, get a good set of performance summer tires. You will be ok in the winter with the all seasons, but may be disappointed with the handling come spring. Also look into an alignment if you are seeing cupping so bad the tires need to be replaced in only a year.
I am aware of the benefits of having a dedicated winter and summer set up. My old RS had that and it was great. But money is tight, getting my old rims out here is becoming more difficult than I thought it would be, and knowing Minnesota, snow isn't very far away and really don't want to get stuck with my current tires on when the snow flies. I already have a huge hole in my bumper from trying to get through last winter with them on. Not doing that again.
