Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase some coilovers for my 2004 STI. The car currently has k-sports, and the 2 rears are blown out. So the car is only summer driven. Not track raced (yet), and I'm looking for something with a decent ride. Looking for suggestions from you guys. Thanks! Jake
Skip the cheap stuff. BC is "ok", but ride is by no means impressive. Budget is key here. For a cheap budget, Feal Revalves and RCE Springs. From there can look at Feal Coilovers(kinda like BC but with better internals and springs, KW V1/3, RCE T0/t2.
I've heard they're not the most reliable... If you don't mind rebuilding them every year or so then go ahead.
"Heard" is the problem. I've had them before and they are not bad. It wasn't for me. Some may last a long time, some not so long. And yes high end would be best. But not every one was money to blow.
If your purpose of coilovers is for a good ride and adjustability (dampening, ride height, spring rate, etc), you'll want to look into KW V3's, RCE T2's (V3's revalved by RCE, customizable....I'm currently running these on my 08 and like them a lot), AST's, SST's (AST's that are revalved by Turn in concepts...customizable as well), Ohlin's, Feals..even Ground Control coilovers (uses a good Koni damper that is easily replaceable). If you're simply trying to slam it (which I don't believe you are)...take your pick on any of the cheap coilovers. If you're simply trying for a nice ride that handles well, shoot for a good strut/spring combo. RCE springs (black or yellow) offer a nice drop. And since you have an 04, D-Specs are an excellent strut choice (I happen to have an extra set in my garage but they are spoken for already ). And as an FYI to all, with any coilover, cheap or expensive, they do need proper maintenance...ie being rebuilt from time to time. That's part of the cost of ownership of coilovers.
http://turninconcepts.com/st-coilovers-02-07-wrx-and-04-sti.html These will be much better than BC if your focused only on coil-overs in that price range.
For my brz I'm trying out ICS N1 coilovers. They make them for wrx and sti as well. I have not found a single bad review on them and at $875 shipped a fairly inexpensive option as well.
Why would you buy a nearly thirty thousand dollar car that is all about handling, then cheap out on a suspension "upgrade"? I don't get it.
I've got the 04 sti race comp coilovers in my 06 fxt. Close enough to what you're looking for right? I love it. Its STIFF as hell (har har har). In the snow.. its a bit unpredictable for me or more like I'm not used to it yet. On dry road, its awesome.
