So, I drive an '05 LGT Limited 5MT. I'm going Stage 2 in the next few weeks with an open-source Bullwinkle tune. I drive the car a lot but really only around town and down the Minneapolis once or twice a month. Obvious supporting mods aside, is it worth it? I would be limited as to how far I can drive my car (although, I could get a Tactrix cable and flash to a 91 map if necessary) but can you see any other limitations? There's a station with E85 about 2 miles from my house and there's 2 or 3 more in Duluth. I'd be happy to hear your thoughts if you went E85 already.
Hm...is it worth going e85? More torque, more hp. If you're willing to get injectors and a fuel pump, sure, go for it. The only downfalls usually are lower mpg and stations (if there isn't any near where you go and/or live)
Haha well the way I see it is that if a long road trip ever comes along it's a perfect excuse for me not to drive But like I said in the OP I could always get a 91 map and use that for long trips and winter (to avoid any cold start issues). I know nothing about tuning but I'm definitely capable of flashing an ECU if I already have the map.
Obviously a Cobb AP is more user friendly, but if I have a laptop and Tactrix cable can't I just get maps from LegacyGT.com and flash it that way? What is the advantage at that point (of having an AccessPort, that is)?
the only real advantage of the AP is how u can load maps as a base map(4maps) or a real time map(10maps). load a base maps every time u starte ur car that map is loaded. load a real time map and that map will only be load for the key cycle( turn off ur car and it goes back to ur base map) so u can have ur e85 toon has the base map. but lets say u going for MPG so u taka the 10sec to load the MPG map which u have a a real map. and lets say some asswipe cuts you off or u feel like having some fun all u have to do is put the car in neutal tune key off. re start ur car and u got ur 85toon load and go have some fun. you can do all of that will still on the road in under 10sec u done have to pull off the road. thats what im planing on doing when i go E85. but i will have the laptop to so i can toon mine own maps and still datalog any time i want.
Yeah for $500 I can turn off the road, stop, and load a different map anyway. I just don't think I'll ever need to be that dynamic with my tuning...
