Its that time of year again, here is the link to the Tombstone Trail website.:yumyum:

For people who have not heard of this this is a GTA (game/touring/adventure) rally. Basically its a scavenger hunt that this year starts in Rochester and ends in Preston. Along the way you will be driving to many cemeteries of all kinds to find answers to questions (usually found on headstones). This is run at night so the darkness in the cemeteries is freaky cool.

Bump. Just over one week left until this rally. This is a lot of fun. Only 5 of the 50 spots are still open.

How did everyone do? My navi and I ended up with 3rd in class B (out of 9 entrants, from what I quickly counted last night). That mystery gravestone was a hard one to get! I must have had a few wrong bits of information, but had we nailed it, we would have had 21 points, putting us in first overall, or at least tying for it.

We got the coveted "Dead Last" award because in a moment of weakness we said just start circling answers. We should have read the directions better. Came from 8th overall last year to dead last. We had a blast though.

Did anyone else go across the single lane bridge in the state forrest park thing?

Didn't run the Tombstone this year, but I really hope they have the Leftover Turkey run. My wife gets back in the US on Nov 23rd after 5 months in Australia, and she really wants to do that rally on the 24th. That's right, not "I want to visit family", or "Let's go shopping", it's "Let's go driving like morons on gravel roads".

Do I know how to pick 'em, or what? :)

Info from the Tombstone Trail mailing list/Mark Larson event master...

We prepared a daylight section of the Tombstone Trail to run for national GTA cars, but none showed up, so we have a rally that is not really suitable for future Tombstone Trails prepared and ready to run. After two attempts at a national GTA rally, we're giving it up, and keeping the fun local for the foreseeable future.

So, rather than just throw away the rally, I want to give people a chance to run it for fun if they'd like. This will just be a fun run, no sanction, no trophies, no entry fees. I'm going to ask for $2 to cover the printing. I'll just need to know how many people are coming, so I can print accordingly.

The Leftover Turkey rally will be Saturday, Nov 24. Registration is from 11 AM to noon at the Apache Mall water tower, US 52 and 16th St SW in Rochester, MN. The event will be about 100 miles of mostly paved, but a lot of gravel, roads. The roads are flat and straight for the most part, none of the hilly, twisty stuff like we had on the Tombstone Trail. You'll be following a specific course, and pickup up answers to questions at cemeteries along the way.

The event ends at Hardy's Bar-B-Q in Rochester. This alone makes it worth the trip. Hardy's is a favorite of lots of rally people around the state.

You can register for the event on the Tombstone Trail Web site. Please do so so I know how many copies to print:
