Car: 2009 Impreza 2.5i Hatchback (55,xxx miles) Modifications: Perrin Lightweight Crank Pulley, Cobb Short Shifter and bushings Problem Description: Time for new brake pads It's time for new brake pads and rotors. I hear the squeal from the pads, I've noticed I have to push harder and harder to stop and since I haven't had them replaced in it's life it's time. I've been doing a bit of research and for no reason other than "I want to" I want to do new rotors as well. I know it's ridiculous to get drilled brake rotors, especially since I don't do any track days or anything but hell, why not right? I've landed on this StopTech kit: http://www.jcwhitney.com/stoptech-c....jcwx?skuId=8631857&filterid=d1936y2009g346j1 I think it looks good, the only thing I've got a question about is on the website it says it only works on the sedans. I've been finding conflicting information, some say that the sedans and hatch's are the same and some say they are completely different. Since this is my first Subaru I don't have the previous experience to inform my decision. Can anyone shed any light as to if this kit will work for a hatchback? Thanks in advance for your help!
The stoptech street pads are great, but drilled rotors are useless. Unless they came on a porcshe, cost a ton of money, or the like, cross drilled rotors are known to crack around the drilled holes. Slotted rotors are normally fine if you want to go that route, be pretty unnecessary. And I can't comment on the impreza sedan vs hatch differences...but you could search here to see if the part numbers from subaru are the same: http://parts.subaru.com/
Skip the stoptech kit, and save yourself a lot of money. Drilled rotors are useless, crack, and will just make your pads wear faster. Buy the pads of your choice, get some centric blanks. No real need for a fancy pad on a DD.
What KA-T_240 said. Get the StopTech pads, they will more than suit your needs and for the performance they are cheap. Pick up the Centric rotors, with the extra money go with stainless lines and better brake fluid. This will still be cheaper than that kit and give you much better bang for the buck. (This is the set up I run. Autocross 8-12 events a year, maybe a couple of HPDE track days, and daily drive. The last set lasted 2 years.)
Stoptech street performance pads and centric blank rotors all day. Good price, good quality and upgrade from stock. As everyone mentioned above slotted/cross drilled rotors aren't necessary for a DD car.
If you're not going to do any racing, skip lines IMO. Not a huge gain on new cars. If you want better pedal feel get a master cylinder brace.
Took everyone's advice and went with the Stop Tech pads but skipped the discs. Thanks for the advice everyone!
