Awesome dude. The novice class registration opens up 60 days before the event. I would be sure to be timely since these events fill up quickly.

I hope so. I really want to get some real experinece and have some smooth and solid driving skills so I can throw down some better times then people with faster cars then mine. I'm working on a better setup, for know just some lower stiffer cobb springs and some new/used rubber (once the snow is gone for good

Last year was my first time trying autocross and it was awesome; I can't wait to do more events this season!

To anyone who is new to the sport I highly recommend the novice school. You have a lot of fun and learn plenty at the same time.

Maybe I'm wrong about you, but Miky you're going into this over your head bro. You're gonna be very disappointed setting these high expectations. Perhaps dialing it down a bunch and getting into a none comp event if you're serious about working on developing your skills. You'll be lucky to get 5 mins on the track at an autocross event.

I'm not saying you won't have fun, I'm just saying thats asking a lot from 5 mins on the track. Thats just the way it is.

The MAC novice school is very good though.

I've also learned a hell of a lot about my car in 6 minutes a day. :) The nice thing about auto-cross is that at least when it isn't at DCTC it is basically consequence free, unless your ABS fails on you suddenly and you lock 4 new RE-01Rs. ;)

This is why Novice school and the test n tunes are the best for seat time. I have had 30 runs or so at the TnTs.

Then you weren't trying hard enough. I think Daniil is the current record holder for TnT runs at DCTC. I think he managed 52 in one day. In his old Legacy wagon. Yes, the maroon one.

Nope I wasn't. 30 was enough for the day. I was a little burned out though, surprising how much those DCTC runs can take out of you.

Practice. Practice. Practice. I'm going to need some orange cones and a emtpy parking lot, some advice on a layout and some basic driving instuctions forht the Novice classes. Then I'll be able to reach some decent seat time. Now does anyone know of any good size parking lots we can use? ;)

PS Musashi, I'm looking forward to using your tires this summer + maybe you can teach me a couple techniques :)

The only time I've ever overheated tires on an autocross course. On the plus side, I got a mad tyte drifto around the 180 banked curve.

LOL Gladly, I wouldn't mind showing a few things that might help get you started. You still have time to grab a few books and do some research online before the first event. On my days off you can find me at Pelican Lake working on some stuff.

For these make sure you have good enough tires and if they are oversized they don't rub when driving on the street. At my novice class two years ago one member here was worried he might not make it home on his because of the wear that took place during the event and another had to drop out because of massive tire rub. That can take the fun out of the day.

Would love to see some more Subies there!! As the lead instructor, I can tell you will get more quality autocross seat time per dollar than in any other place. sign up early - sign up often. :)

Valleyfair chews them up more, this is a hotter course. Valleyfair's pavement is really really rough.

they were Z1s. Doesn't get much better than that for street tires.

I ran my Z1s there 1st time. My tires looked like death after that.
    Valleyfair is awesome though.

The gentleman <mlgez> I was referring to had almost bald Falken Azenis RT-615 tires when he showed up for class. After he finished class they were very bald. That was at Midway.

Ugh. I've been talking to my neighbor (Ivan) and he was planning on teaching me and my wife at the novice school this year if I signed up. Of course it has to be on the day where we have a wedding that we're in. No gettin outta that. I guess we'll have to wait till next year. :(

Would that be the Ivan with a yellow RX-8 ? And you could always go to the second Novice School in July.
