There is no STi to whine about yet. If they come out with one using the new generation of engine, I'll be impressed. Fuel economy standards aren't getting any lighter, and Subaru's don't do well in that department.
My Favorite youtube quotes. "The Impreza's keep getting uglier every year. Ever since 2005, they have gone downhill." "This comment section needs evened out with a positive review. This looks nice. Subaru needs to market their cars to all generations. I think the reviewer put it best by saying this car fits in between the styling crowd. It's not under or over done. And 36mpg with all-wheel-drive. There's some witchcraft going on at Subaru to make that number a reality." "I think the people who don't like the redesign of the new Impreza are "Ricers." Kids who are looking for that more immature, race car, hot-wheels, plastic, big rims kinda look. The car is beautiful, especially the hatch. With those high MPGs and AWD, this car is a win." "Ugly car. Looks like a corolla. Just like Subaru screwed up the Legacy, so have they with this car. Wonder what other ones they will mess up." "good call on that! I didn't really think about that. But yeah true, all the other Impreza's were designed for rally. I'm sure they will make WRX models and the STI. I bet when they do it will look pretty mean." "This car is like the death of the SUV, the final nail in the coffin. The ONLY reason you would drive a neanderthal 20 MPG highway SUV is for towing. Otherwise, here is your all wheel drive in a much more agile 36 MPG highway sedan. Now we understand why VW is so obsessed with diesels lately..."
Just like every new impreza, takes time for people to accept them and like them. Whatever, hurry up and replace those f-pistons damnit!
Agreed 100%! Why must all manufacturer's have the same look now? Why would anyone want a Subie that was raped by a Civic and Focus....
The same people that are buying them by the truckloads, EVERY month last (and this year) year broke EVERY sales record subaru has EVER had, why fix what isnt broken? (making an aggressive impreza for you tards) Subaru doesnt care about making car nuts happy, they care about selling cars, this new impreza is going to get 36MPG, and its going to keep setting sales records, mark my words.
I don't see what the big deal is all about all I see is a car. I have been very bored with Subaru for a long time now. But after reading this article and seeing the new developments and actually test driving a 2011 Forester on a technical track I'm actually excited to see what they'll come up next. I'm looking forward to testing out the new much lighter Subaru in the new future.
at least they are getting remotely competitive. When you can pick up a 2011 ford taurus that has 360 HP and AWD now and still gets better gas mileage than a 2011 impreza...you've got to ask what would you buy the subaru for other than product loyalty. Glad to see a light, fuel efficient impreza back on the market. I'm hoping the looks department tweaks them a little bit, but the extra boot space and higher roof line will be nice for camping gear, etc. Most of the looks will end up getting remedied by the aftermarket anyhow with better fitting wheels and suspension bits.
Not enough pedals. I would have had a much harder decision to make if more manufacturers offered 6 speed manuals, or even 5 speed for that matter. That doesn't matter to a lot of people. I also like the overall way scoobs drive, but it's not so great that I won't consider anything else. Subaru should be more than a little worried about the competition now days. I think that's a good thing. They've got the chops to remain competitive under pressure and I expect to see some cool stuff coming our way in the near future.
This new engine does not even have direct injection yet. Gasoline Direct Injection has a potential effeciency improvement of 12%, which would put the Impreza at about 40 mpg. That would sell a few more cars...
I heard... that the Impreza is no longer going to be the platform used for the WRX/STI. When the WRX/STI comes out again it will be it's own model. I'm excited to see what they do once they're not tied down with the Impreza platform.
Absolutely. I personally am thrilled to see that subaru is making a more efficient impreza and that they are offering both four and five doors. I dont know the cries about the appearance, I think its a much more attractive car than the last model released. Its definitely not standing out quite as much, but thats what the wrx and sti models are for. The L and RS models have always been bland version of their more powerful siblings. I'm excited to see what future vehicles subaru is cooking up to compete. They've always set the benchmark on efficient AWD cars, I just hope they knock it out of the park again. I also agree with the comment about direct injection. Its a surprise to see that while other manufacturers are bolstering MPG gains with it, subaru passed it over.
It must be a new trend for 2012 cars to have the side mirrors designed the they look on that Impreza. Wonder if Subaru got the idea from Mercedes...
Has anybody put in a pre-order yet for the 2012 Impreza? I saw that White Bear is going to have a 2012 Impreza on display this weekend (Oct 8th, 10-12pm) and at Brooklyn Park on the 13th.
Looking at the lines on the sedan it looks like its being flattened out by a rolling pin. The nose is all squished down and the back is hella tall, looks like a wedge of cheese. If anyone orders one please don't get it in yellow because giant mice will come devour it.
Yes, some interesting proportions... No yellow for 2012, although white is available so I guess it could be mistaken for a block of parmesan since the front end seems to convey a salty disposition. The big wheel arches also seem to make the wheels like kind of small too.
They're supposed to have the new sti finished for 2014. Im just upset they only made the nice flared wrx sedan for only one year.
My12 was confirmed to have the same body styles for the wrx and sti. If the new wrx/sti line takes until 2014 I'd bet My13 would be the same as My12 as well.
