the reason i'm asking is because i want some 17x9 for my wrx but i can't find any that are 5x100. the only ones i see are 5x114.3. are there any wheel mfg that makes 17x9 for 5x100?
kosei k1-ts, 5zigen fn01r-c, ccw, advan, ssr, etc... Why do you want 17x9, what size tire do you plan to run, what offset are you looking at, and what do you plan to do to the rear fenders? edit: remembered some more: enkei es-tarmac, volk ce28(n?), ssr comp (type-c?), the new OZ Alleggerita HLT, team dynamics pro, rota torque, work cr-cai, pretty much any special order work, advan, etc...
[QUOTEWhy do you want 17x9, what size tire do you plan to run, what offset are you looking at, and what do you plan to do to the rear fenders?[/QUOTE] truthfully i wanted 255 due to how they look but i'm probably going to go with a smaller size, 235 or 245 because i don't want to any mods to my fenders. and for the offset, that's a great question. i guess that will depend on the wheels and i'm not totally sure which offset will work best either. i just don't want to deal with any rubbing or worst case, broken knuckle.
If you are just doing it for looks, why not just get some 17x8's with a more agressive offset, that way you don't run your tires stretched like a VW.
before we get way off track with offsets...., converting 5x100 to 5x114.3 is not worth the money and no benefits are gained from it correct?
from what i get of what others say, its not worth it for just going for looks. And theres a link with the size you are looking for...and in 5x100 so you will not need the conversion
There are benefits to the 5x114.3 spacing when it comes to track applications and wheel bearing wear. Also in terms of parts availability (05-07 STi 5x114.3 hubs/knuckles vs 04 STi 5x100) if you are thinking of upgrading. If you are just going for a flush look, I would suggest keeping the 5x100 and look for 17x8 +40ish offset. It will be a little aggressive and harder on the wheel bearings, but it'll get you the look you want. Consider wheel spoke design also. The correct offset for a 17x8 wheel (assuming stock wheel is 17x7 +55) will be in the +48 range. Also, a 245 wide tire fits pretty well on an 8" wide wheel, but gets pretty grabby in slow, tight turn situations, and can have a tendency to track a bit more at hwy speeds (depending on the tire). I did not like daily driving 255 on 17x8, am ok with the 245 on 17x8 that I currently run, but think 235 and 225 that I used to run (both on 17x8) were better geared (pun intended) for the street... 225/45/17 was a little stretched and didn't offer the rim protection I wanted, but the tires I was looking at weren't available in a 235/40/17 at the time.
If you have the parts..... 5x114.3 is FTW... It is a lot of work(and money) to swap to 5x114.3. You need axels all they out from a 05+ STI. Stick wit 17x8 with a 245. I run 17x7 with a +38 and i rubbed like a b!tch. (lowered car) As Sheen said, Try to stay with a higher offset and you will be fine. DO NOT BUY ADAPTERS!!!!! ADAPTERS ARE NOT GOOD!!!
great info from everyone!!!! this will definitely help with wheel choice in the future. i need to get more educated with offsets though. "idget" thanks for your advice. i will take that into consideratiion. any other onfo please post it. i know others will get something out of it.
