Trying to get the 93 legacy turbo up and running :)
Does anyone know if a 2.2 n/a auto trans will work on a turbo 2.2. I dont know if the gear ratio's will be the same or not front to rear??

Im also looking for a used auto trans that may work..if anyone has a line on one.

    +1

Swapping the rear diff is super easy and will most likely make it easier to find a new trans. I think most of the NA impreza/legacy autos were 4.11s.

There are a fair share of early 90's Legacy auto's that are 3.90. I was under enough of them at Chesney's to know, lol.

Shouldn't the tag on the tranny tell you with a little decifering?

The gear ratio on the tleg is 3.90

A N/A tranny will work but I would not use one on a turbo

The turbo Trannys are built to a higher spec. than N/A.
They have extra clutches in the Forward, High, and Transfer(4wd) clutch packs
and The Servo Piston For the 2nd-4th band has a larger apply area for more force on the band. and there are some small differences in the Valve body calibration also. And The N/A Torque Converter is a smaller diameter and requires a different flexplate.

What is wrong with the trans thats in the car now?

    I hope this helps

1-4 work, have to rev reverse up to 3k to get it to start moving. I did find at 3.90 trans on e-bay from Chicago. I read that the N/A autos were 4.10, so could I assume that any 3.90 would be from a turbo???

There were some 3.90 autos in the early legacies. I was under a '90-91 wagon in Duluth that had a 3.90.

well just looked at it today, put 3qts of trans fluid in it on sat, and it has been sitting for a coulpe days and there is a shoe box size puddle under it. The pan is is fine no holes and the rear output shaft seal is good. Im wondering if the seal between the converter and the trans housing is leaking??
