sooooooo i bought an rd series injen cai and it fried two!! maf sensors and now my o2 is freaking out as well...i tried to make it a short ram and it still didnt work..cel..maf..vaf..and o2 again...then i tried the frankentake with the stock box and snorkus and such and it still flipped codes...

heres a where i have a question..i called injen and spoke to a manager who was simply shocked because they (injen) are "subaru specialists"..i have to call them back tomorrow with a reciet..no biggy..i have a few options when i call back..i can get another cai from them wich scares the hell outta me..i could get my money back and fix my car (maf allready overnighted) and i need to re-check the o2 (also had a small exh leak..wich is fixed) but i could put the rest of the cash towards brakes?...but what should i do about this intake problem? is this normal..hahaha i hope its not. injen may also credit me close to 500$ due to all the problems ive had but i dont want anymore of their crap and they simply dont make anything i want..unless i want 500 bucks worth of injen radiator caps! ya right...so now ive lost my train of thought and i need everyones WORTH WHILE advice.

    thanks
    Aric:emo:

Maybe it's not what you want to hear, but don't install the intake, unless you are making over 300HP. You will fry a few more things if you try to improvise an intake. Just use the stocker and get rid of snorkus. Get the gpmoto elbow and call it a day until you get a bigger turbo.

With that said...maybe you have some wiring issues if you're burning up two MAFs and an o2...Make sure to check and clean the MAF contacts with some MAF cleaner and maybe swap in a new or used 02 that's confirmed working.

    oh wait...it's an RS....nevermind :) Fail.

    any other ideas?

I wonder if the car hasn't had its recall work done on the MAF sensor. I know mine used to dump them like crazy and I'd have to buy an entirely new MAF assembly at $300 each. I never found out if it was a change to the MAF itself or just changing the part # to the sensor alone that was part of the recall. By that time I had ditched the MAF and gone with a different ECU.

Either way the stock airbox with a better panel filter is enough performance as people have said. In fact SCC's turbo RS project left it in instead of using some aftermarket intake.

And don't be ashamed you don't have a turbo. At the last Subaru Challenge I went to it was a GC 2.5RS that set the best times over even the fully race-prepped, dealership-sponsored STi. The 2.5RS is an autocrossing fiend.

ive got all the papers on this car from the original owner,im the second..so i should go see if theres been any recall work on it..the problem didnt occur until i tried the cai..i have a lil hope that the new maf and the stock intake will make this better.

im not really that asshamed of my non turboness..i love my torque.

Don't change the intake on a 99 RS...end of story. Take a look in the NASIOC archives.

I have a Cobb intake (sanse a couple hoses) that I had on my 99rs for about a year with no issues. It was a little more expensive, but I got it because it had the reputation of being the only intake for 99's that wouldn't blow mafs. I'd be willing to sell it to ya...let me know if you're interested, I can go find it and get some pictures taken.

Like I said though, it's missing a couple hoses...but those can be bought anywhere (they just won't be pretty blue)

I have a '99 L. I went through 2 MAF's and then I put in a paper filter and ran it like that. I used a '93 Impreza Intake pipe; part between MAF and TB. Works just fine.

Just don't mess with the '99 MAF's. Don't an intake. Spend $$ somewhere else.... like a QUICK STEERING COLUME!!! Subframe lock bolts!!! KAAZ 1.5way LSD!!

well fuji i tried the intake piece from the injen from the maf to tb and i was still throwing codes so i dont think i wanna go through that again quite yet..and i dont think i can justify spending 1300 bucks or 800 even on an lsd. a carbon fiber drive shaft on the other hand would be nice or how bouts a swap!!! oh wait i need to do my brakes :(
