Well I located the leak in my A/C, it's a special order $130 line High side between the condensor and the compressor, the leak is right on the crimp. I was wondering if anyone knows of a cheap way to fix a leak, any kind of patching or something like that. If not, does anyone know of a good A/C specialist that could fix it cheaper than subaru.
Just to let you know dont bother trying to fix it yourself unless someone knows a shop who does that kind of special repair. How did your line leak? mine leak because of my freakin huge ass APS TMIC was rubbing on the aluminum line. Dont worry summer is almost over you wont be needing AC until next year.
You could throw some dry ice in the vent when they come over to check it out. just be sure you show them the cold a/c before it melts:biggrin:
For a $130? Install it yourself, couldn't be that hard could it? I wouldn't think that's too bad to sell you car, add anther $25 in to charge it yourself, and you're set.
Well thats what I was goin to do, but im sayin if someone can fix a leak for cheaper that would be sweet.
I know I need to replace another part, but I don't remember what it's called. Someone told me when ever you open up the A/C lines to oxygen it makes something go bad, i want to say evaperator or something like that??? Anyone?
Well alot of people replace the reciver dryer when they do a/c work. The reciver dryer is like the filter for the a/c system. I have done a/c work with a cheap equipment and with proper equipment. If I were you I would replace the line your self and look for a deal on a a/c recharge at a shop. Those kits the sell at the parts stores are not the right way to do it. But its up to you. Usally DAS in hopkins has a deal on a/c recharge. IMO they are the best a/c people in town.
The dryer, that's it. Do I need to replace this? Or is it just recommended? I'm just quickly replacing that line, it won't be open to oxygen for too long.
You dont usally need to replace the dryer unless the compressor blows up. But dryers are cheap like 30 bucks. Its up to you. If it was my car I would replace it because I am anal. But I would not recomend it to a customer.
Awsome, thanks for your help! I guess the part came today so I should have A/C tonight. Of course, after the heat wave......
badbennyb: I hope you were joking. And I hope no one follows that advice. This dry ice website explains how bad this could be. One of the golden rules of dry ice is, do not use in a confined space. Dry ice sublimates in to carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide gas in a confined space kills. Hard to sell a car to someone when they are dead.
