so this is sort of an odd place to ask questions about this preticular topic but since i know a few techies on this site i figure hey what the heck might as well!!

so here it is, i scheduled my first A+ test more specifically the basic test and im wonderin if there are any of you out there who have done the A+ recently? or even way back in the day? if there are a few tips or hints you could give me on how the test is. Obviously i know you should know your stuff before you go in and take the test but how in the test in general hard? lots of trick questions?

Lastly, how has it benifit your career standpoint has it impacted it in a positive way? has it benifited it at all? my goal is to complete all the A+ certs the Server+ cert the Net+ cert and my security + cert by the end of this year by the end of next year i hope to be completely CompTIA certified

any input would be awesome :)

    thanks

I used to teach A+. It helps people (fresh out of high school) get a summer job. Other than that, the only thing it's good for is contract work swapping out NICs and memory. Go get some Microsoft certs or Cisco certs instead.

meh imho in think its kind of a waste. I never took it, just looked through some of the test prep stuff and figured it was pretty worthless for my career path, It's really just something you can add on to your business card. get your CCNA from cisco and go from there, those test are pretty expensive and the classes are even more pricey.

Don't forget Juniper. Lots of businesses are jumping to them because of the price differences. Most of the big carriers have them too. Might distingish you from the run of the mill CCNA test memorizer. Routers are routers and the concepts are the same. That is if you want to be a network wienie...

Cisco training is worth it... I wouldn't waste my time with A+ unless you're entry level. Which then you may need it.

You should have answered the job posting I had about a month or two ago. The new guy is already at a 2 week training. He will become only the third non-3com employee to be certified in their enterprise VOIP switch in the state. Now that's getting a foot in the door!

    "Hi,

Justin here for pc pro schools....."

Why don't you go check that school out. You can have your degree and earning $550,000 in 6 months or something.

during interviewing, we actually see the "+" certs as filler. i'd much rather see something with some meat to it, like a cisco or redhat cert. even the windows certs are fairly lol

An A+ cert might only help to get you a crappy job at Best Buy or something.

I got my A+ a number of years back... nothing has really come of it. But I think it's not a bad place to start if you're looking to move on to bigger and better things.

Oh, and adaptive tests... SUCK MONKEY NUTS

I remember when I took the A+ test back in 1998. It was in the old Norwest building (now Wellsfargo) with the round top on the SE corner of France and 494. It was on the third floor. From my car to the restroom to the test to the car was 25 minutes. It was easier/quicker than shutting off my alarm in the morning (which takes me 27 minutes 3x9).
