    whats happenin' fellow sooby fools?!

Just thought I'd stop by in a few minutes between planes at the USO in San Diego and let all of you know what I'm up to and when I might be home. I know a couple of y'all are interested in keeping tabs on me and where I'm at, so I figure this is a good opportunity.

Welp, I just graduated MCT (marine combat training) at camp pendleton, CA.

I'm en-route to Courthouse Bay Camp Lejuene for my MOS (military occupational specialty) schooling, 1371 Combat Engineer. My school is 51 days long, plus in-unit training, but it should be a pretty good time.

I'm hearing rumors that my school is very backed up due to the Corps increasing numbers, and also because of a slinky effect due to the holiday season slowing things up, kind of like rush hour traffic.

That being said I may be home in a few weeks, and working with the recruiters again so that I can continue to do something productive with my time, and try to build a network in the Corps. I'm not sure how much "R.A." they will give me, but if I do get some, plan on me being at every sooby meet I can get to.

Also, if anyone knows what I'll be looking at to get my timing belt replaced ('02 bugeye wagon) whether proffesionally or by someone in the club. I would like to pick up some coil overs too, so if there is someone on the fence about selling or trading out a set, PM me and we can get in touch if I am on the way back. I plan on getting the car as tuned up as I can, so I can just grab it and go straight to my unit once I get stationed.

Thanks for all the support from everyone in the club. Know that I think about my car, and the sooby club any and everyday. It gets rough sometimes thinking about all you leave behind at home. For me I get a reminder every time my girl calls, or I hear that familiar rumble rumble go past me on base.

If anybody on here can give me some insight into the cali clubs (camp pendleton area) or the NC soob club (camp Lejuene area) that would be AWESOME. I plan on staying connected in MN, but it would be nice to get up and running with the areas I might be stationed in.

Glad things are going well Jack. As for clubs readymix may have some idea of a good club out there. If I remember right he used to live out there. I know he served as well but not sure in what branch or anything.

Glad the corps is treating you good.

recruiters assistance is pretty slack. My friend did it. We just hung out and drove around. He recruited while we were at places... eheh

    Yeah, we'll see what happens.

Some douchebag went home on RA from my company, and when he was supposed to come back he went AWOL. Then he got in a wreck while AWOL, and needed surgery. So he got surgery, the corps wont pay for it, he's sueing them, etc.

    That is problem number one.

Problem number two, is our first sergeant seems like she hates us. Shes way uptight, but I suppose you dont get to that rank, especially as a female in the corps, without having a huge set of invisible nuts.

We've got our recruiters doing what they can to get us home, and beyond that, we're just going to wait it out before we can train.

welp, no time home for me!

Talked to my platoon sergeant today, and the first sergeant closed down any RA opportunities.

We can blame it on the genius Private first class who was priviledged RA, went home, got on a bike (we arent allowed to ride motorcycles when in student status first of all) and then got nabbed by the cops at 140mph two days ago.

That was the last straw, so we're all here until our classes pick up the 15th of april. Anyways, thats that, and everything included.

I'll spend a bit longer missing my car, but I'll get it back eventually, and will start the fun!

wow that sucks! Although I am sure that the Corp. will keep you guys busy until tax day.

Hope things change for the better though. Your car will always be here, tempting you... ;-)

eh, I'm just looking at it as an opportunity to save money for another month, earn time in grade on another rank, which is again, going to help with money.

The other thing we have a lot of time to do is work out. We have an incredible fitness center here with a climbing wall and the works (I think i mentioned that)

The only thing I need more of in my life at this point is women, which whatever. I'm young and have plenty of time to see where that leads me.

ha, I'm wearing PFC chevrons at the moment, as a rate them. My paperwork is in the mail to here, and I'm going to be paid for my rank starting next month. I am about 6 months of from my promotion to Lance.

I will be getting backpaid for the two months I warranted PFC but waited on the paperwork too, so that works well.

we work our asses off physically here, combat engineering is a very intense job.

Cant wait to hit the fleet and meet my unit. I'm sure we'll be attatched to a much larger one, as nearly EVERY unit in the fleet is requesting and competing for combat engineer attatchments. Our motto is "Jack of all trades, master of none"

I dont mind that my name is Jack either. its kinda slick.

You going to be making it a career?

^hell no. (that includes a small maybe)

I love minnesota too much. I look forward to a steady relationship, getting married, the family life. I already put my family through enough of the stresses of a life in the military, and wont add more, especially when I have a wife.

Its a choice I've made to not get married, and not start a family while in the corps, just like my decision to stay away from smoking, dip, and to keep the drinking to a minimum. That being said, I'm going to enjoy the corps while I'm in, and most likely, will settle down and take the lessons I've learned here to build a better life for myself and my future family.

San Diego, ahh memories. I was in the Navy for 6 years, and spent about 6 years in SD. There is AWJunkies, they are a good group of guys. Well, they used to be. The guy running the show got all hollywood on us and the site went to ****. I have a few Navy buddies that still live out there and they all had Imprezas. There is a pretty good scene in SD for import cars. I'm a little rusty on my San Diego roads, but I believe there is a Subaru dealership off 163 that has an Asian restaurant in the the strip mall about a block west of it. They hang out there on Thursday nights (AWJunkies) and eat $1 popcorn chicken and boba and just sit around the parking lot. There was a BMW group that would show up later in the evening and hang out with us. Might want to just check the SoCal Nasioc group and see what they have going on.

If you ever get bored of Combat Engineering, cross train over to the HMX-1 support crew which is based at Quantaco, VA. Those guys/gals get to travel all over.

aftermarket or if nathan (wrxboy2003) is still making them, you should get a nathan catback. He does MUCH better work than you can buy, at least by me.
