I thought the standard AccessPort unit can still have a protune done to it and the Protuner allows the option to give the user adjustability to make their own custom maps. ...something most enthusiasts won't want to do themself.
Ok, alot of it will depend on your car and the mods. If you have a 4eat, you will definitly want to get a ap. The utec and the auto tranny don't get along real well. They will work, but once you get your car dialed in, there is a little fuel trim drift that can be kinda annoying. The are other things to consider. if you want to be able to tune or even tweak any of your maps, you will either need a ap with the street tuner or the utec. Once your car gets a protune flash, the only person that can get intop the map is the person who did the protune. The street tuner can do almost everything the protuner can do. As for the utec, it is just plug and play, and start working out your maps from there. If you have a manual, and are willing to do some of the tuning yourself, the utec is a good way to go. Alot of the crossover problems and such that some people will complain about can be tuned out. I have done a bunch of utec tunes and can pretty much always get rid of the crossover stuff. Now with the new firmware I guess the crossover stuff is gone (haven't played with 5.0 yet). So basically if you want to get your finger dirty and actually want to have some control over your car, you will either need a utec or a ap with street tuner. Russ
I've been thinking of getting one for my my02 wagon 4eat. Does it make a noticeable difference in driveability on its own? Anyone with a 4eat have one? An accessport that is. P.s. These nokian rsi's I got on monday, are paying off! Lots of fun, control and predictability
