Hey Guys...I believe I asked about this subject before and got confused answers...This is EXACTLY what I got Rims: Velox VX-K Competition series - One-piece cast aluminum wheels, Gunmetal paint finish - Car Front Wheel Drive applications Wheel size : 17x7.5" Wheel weight : 23 Lbs Available offsets (backspacing) : +40mm (5.82") Available lug-patterns : 4x100mm 4x114.3mm (4x4.50") 5x100mm 5x112mm 5x114.mm (5x4.50") 5x115mm Tires: Hankook Ventus HRII H405 215/45R-17 87H VSB (11535) Treadwear: 340 Traction: A Temperature: A Speed Rating: HR Now I am completely retarted when it comes to this subject. So I have them on and they seem OK, just need balancing, also I need allingment...BUT that does not matter..MY QUESTION IS CAN I RUN WITH THESE RIMS THAT ARE 40OFFSET..ON MY OLD GC I HAD RUBBING ISSUES BUT I DON'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY ISSUES NOW..SO IS THIS GOING TO MESS UP MY SUSPENSION OR ANYTHING AT ALL..PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE WHEELS/TIRES IS NOT MY FAVORITE SUBJECT..and does that (Car Front Wheel Drive applications) Really matter at all..
I would keep the stockers on if I were you. +40mm offset = wheel bearing death Wheel Weight: 23lbs = holy cow, that's freakin heavy The stock wheels would be beneficial for the weightloss alone. The wheel bearing issue, well, I can't talk, I'm running 40mm and have no problems yet. But I will have problems, I know this. It probably wont rub since you are on stock suspension. If you lower it at all, you might be ok. Those tires aren't a match for the stock circumference values. You would want to be running a 225 45 17 tire. But if you did that, you would run a bigger chance of rubbing due to your offset.
lol @ 23lbs "competition series" Mohd, get yoself some rotas, cant go wrong on thier suby offsets. And they won't weigh no stinkin 23lbs. My subzeros weigh 17.5 lbs and are the same size. The hankook ventus is an up and comer in the tire world. I think its a solid low cost choice.
Oddly enough, I've done a lot of research into this and 215/45/17 was the tire size that came on any WRX with the 17 inch wheel option (either 5 spoke or the BBS option) and on the JDM STI wagons it's the stock size. My guess is that (at least for the wagon) it won't rub like a 225 would due to the fenders not being flared. It also gives you slightly better gearing. I'll be running 215's when I get my 17's mounted because I don't want to worry about rolling my fenders, and I haven't found a place locally that'll do it anyway. If I could, I'd think about a 225 series. Check out the wheel offset thread on NASIOC, there's a lot of good info in there.
stupid question, how does tire width (ie 215 vs. 225 vs. 245 ect) affect gearing? cause i wouldnt think it would
A 215/45 would have a smaller diamater than a 225/45. The second number is the aspect ratio, displaying the height is x% of the width (45% of 215mm vs. 45% of 225mm).
