I currently have a mbc on my wrx with cai, headers, uppipe, turboback, fuel pump. I am wondering if I leave my mbc on with the ap or put the stock one back on? I am going to need it protuned and just want to know what I should do before I go to a tuner. Any input on who tuned your ap would be appreciated. or would it make sense to just use cobb stage 2 mapping. I don't understand why cobb doesn't make a map for cars with cai and headers/up, do these not help or what. I was wondering if the tuner had to detune the ap for a cai. I just don't know what I want to do so any advice would be greatlly appreciated (sorry for the rambling and thanks in advance for help)
TAKE OFF YOUR MBC ASAP! your car has no way of controlling partial throttle boost...i forsee a kaboom in your future! also cai= NO on wrx
What cai is it?? I would let the ap do its thing for boost control. The biggest thing is that you need to remember is that a stg2 wrx barely has enough gas to support 15-16psi. So when you run a mbc you are not getting the correct amount of gas for the given load site that you are in. I would definitly get rid of the mbc, and I would atleast have the afr checked to make sure it is in check with the cai. I just did a stg2 wrx that was running a cai (I think it was the k&n), and his afr's were ok, but some cai's are a bit larger in diameter. Russ
I am currently running an injen cai, I just have the look and bulkyness of the stock airbox so any way to avoid this would me great(short ram???) I have an egt and am not seeing any crazy numbers that I know of, what is it supposed to be at? so could I just run stage 2 with my headers and uppipe on or do I need to get tuned for them? if so how big of a difference is it going to make? thanks for the input
Again, just like the cai, you can run the uppipe and headers, but you are increasing aiflow without increaseing the gas. Basically the more stuff you add to the stg2 map, the leaner you are making your car. Luckly the cobb map is pretty rich so you might be safe. I would go and get it tuned (or atleast checked) to make sure that your idc's and afr are in check before you start up the thrashing sessions. Russ
The worst reason to change an airbox is because of how it looks. Conventional subaru wisdom generally states that the stock airbox is fine up until 300whp. I'd just put a stock one back in there and get used to the fact that engines look however they look, its more about how they run. If you don't know what a short ram will do other than taking away more stock components then don't bother spending money on it. You should tune for your mods or at least try to find an off the shelf map thats closer to what you actually have. I don't think its a very good idea to add anything that affects the respiration of your engine without tuning to compensate. How much of a difference is it going to make? You will go from wondering if its safe to being able to just enjoy the car.
wrx joe, you should not be reading anywhere over 1600F on your egt, anymore than that is a bit on the "pushin it" side
i usually run at around 1300 F and I do know what a short ram intake do know that there are advantages to intakes beyond looks, however I just hate all the cluter under my hood.
I have an EJ257 block that needs pistons for when you toast your block. Let me know when you're ready.
