Back story. swapping a 3.7 LSD that was in my wagon to 4.111 to go in the new XT6. when I put this diff together the last time a few years ago, I liberally applied loc-tite to the bolts, as I've had them back out before :eek4:. I was using my impact wrench, and was noticing that I was having CFM issues, but not from the motor/compressor itself, but between the tank and hose. As there would be a noticeable drop in torque after about a half second, and as soon as I let off the trigger on the impact, I could hear the hose re-pressurizing. As a result, even with the torch and quite some time/frustration, I only managed to get 2 ring gear bolts out.

Tonight, I decided to see if it was the pressure regulator. so I removed it (was already cranked wide open). problem solved. took me about 5 minutes to take the other 6 (right? 8 total....I already forgot  ) out.

Any reason I should put the regulator back on? I never really understood the need......but that doesn't mean there isn't one

reg is always nice. i use mine when i fill up tires on my bikes, so i dont pop the tube, also use the reg when i fill up the intertubes for my speedboat. i also use it to keep a nice steady flow or air for when im grinding down metal/wood or painting with my spraygun

I guess I would look into your water problem first. Then add a remote reg with a water catch before the regulator.

you should have at least a coalescing bowl pre regulator. im guess the diaphragm on the regulator got gummed up or the spring is failing. Are you just using the stock reg that came with the compressor?
