Has anyone here ever developed allergies "later" in life? The reason why I ask is because I spent all weekend in my garage cutting 2x4's and plywood to build some SWEET new shelves and today I can't stop sneezing and my damn nose will not quit running. The only time this has happened before is when I got scratched by a cat but that quit after about a half-hour. I assumed that the cat thing was an allegric reaction, and that was at least a year ago. I'm 32 years young and have never had this happen before.
I am 20, never had allergies before and for a month now, it has been non-stop sneezing and runny nose.... i think i just devenloped them this year...
Did you wear a respirator or dust mask when you were cutting? That fine dust can cause the symptoms you are describing. I'm pretty bad about it usually, but I try more and more now to wear a dust mask when doing wood working stuff.
Same thing happened to me this year. Head is all plugged up, sneezing constantly, nose is like a faucet. It's been really bad this month just like it was in the spring.
nope. I didn't even think of it, damn it. I will in the future though- I have a full box about 10' from my chop saw. Are any of you who are developing these allergies taking anything that helps - or just filling your garbage cans with snotty toilet paper like I am?
They say that if you never had allergies before you move to Texas, well, you'll have allergies in Texas. They can develop at any time. They can also go away at any time. I was terribly allergic to cats until I got two of them. Allergies were bad for about a month...then it just went away. I'm no longer allergic to any cats!!
I hate hate hate allergies! Two years ago I started to get seasonal allergies during the summer/fall. And I was never allergic to cats till I turned 18, they cause my eyes to itch, and swell up. It sucks because I can't really stay too long at place that houses cats. I had really bad allergic reactions to shrimp since I was little but lately my reactions are not as bad as they use to be, it would cause my throat to close up and face to break out in hives. I think that eventually I ate enough that the reactions aren't so bad anymore? Anyhow, allergies FTL.. They literally have drained lots of fun time.
can't stand close to cats at all...even tho they look delicious, cute and all but still i can't go near them!!!!!!
I was asking the same question...hello kitty gives her red eye, bennihana give her hives.....very odd
yes it can definately happen. I was a pharmacy technician for 5 yrs and many patients developed allergies that they never before had a problem with. Our pharmacists usually recommended over-the-counter Claritin which now has a generic available that has all of the same ingredients for much cheaper. There are also many prescriptions available that vary in price but if you have insurance, it might be worth to check out.
can someone develop a vaccine for sore throats? cause im getting pissed off at getting them all the time
I am allergic to dumb people. But no seriously, I read that they change every 7 years or so, it's entirely possible to be allergic to something later in life that you never had a reaction to before.
benedryl works like a charm, but it completely takes me out. I take it so it doesn't ruin my day, but it makes me sleep the whole day, I guess sleeping comfortably is better than a runny nose, itchy throat, and itchy eyes for a whole day.. Claritin doesn't work too well for me, but the generic stuff works great for some reason.
I have this problem as well. Maybe if I spend more time around dumb people, my allergic reaction will go away? Or will I become dumb instead and not notice?
I am 34.. an alcaholic.. er wrong thread.. actually I NEVER had allergies till moving here to the states.. and for the lst 6yrs each year is getting progressively worse...
over the last year or so I have developed an allergy to dogs and cats, even though I have had both basicly my entire life......
I grew up around horses and hay and 3 years ago i started getting hives and red eyes from the hay and now i have horrible allergies in the begging of the summer. like Karen said, over the counter off brand 24hr Claritin works wonders and doesn't knock you out, i swear by it!
My insurance changed and no longer covers allegra, it worked like a charm when I had it. Now the pharmacy charges me 108.00 for it, so I'm settling with the generic stuff for 20.00. to get me through until winter.
A friend at work told me about her friend (ya ya ya a friend of a friend) who just developed an allergic reaction to sugar! She's losing a ton of weight and is having issues finding things that she can eat. Scary! As for me, I think I'm mildly allergic to some fruits...they make my throat itchy and scratchy. So does guacamole though...are avocados fruits? Either way, I still eat both. The worst that's happened is that my lower lip swells up a little bit.
me too.. grew up in a tropical area ate lots of bananas, apples etc, and now I get the itchy throat.. also I would say yes to avocado being a fruit as it has a seed.. most anything with seeds is classed as a fruit.. ie tomato's
Fruit is classified as the ripened ovary of a single flower. Vegetable is actually a culinary term. Many things we consider "vegetables" are actually fruits, like peppers, etc., but other things that have seeds like squash, zucchini, etc belong to the gourd family. Bananas are considered fruits, which do have seeds, but they are not viable. It all boils down to what definition you want to use.
