So on the way home tonight from firestone, I was pulled over. I wasn't speeding, I don't have loud exhaust and I was doing nothing wrong. He comes up and says, "what's up with the blue lights?" I said, "what blue lights?" He said that my license plate lights are blue. I told him that they are white and then he gave me a ticket for blue lights. :hsugh: Thing is, they don't even look blue. They really are white LEDs. God that pisses me off. Just venting..
Where was it and what statute were you cited under? Also, what color temp are the LEDs and can you prove it (receipt or something)?
Amending a charge is pretty simple. It might be of marginal usefulness if it goes to trial. If your lights are truely white, you need to figure out how you're going to "prove" this to the prosecutor at arraignment.
Like I said in the PM I sent you. I would really like to get a couple other silver wrx's and take pictures with different bulbs in the place of the stock plate lights. I could take one with stock bulbs, one with my WHITE bulbs and then another with autozone style blue lights. I would also bring in a copy of the mistake that he made on the statute. And then also explain why these white bulbs are better than the stock halogen bulbs. If anything, they are a lot brighter and makes the plate easier to read in incliment weather. I think the pictures will help prove my case. My white lights versus actual blue lights. I can cover all the plates on these cars with a white piece of paper to help show the true color of all the bulbs. Any thoughts on this?
Sucks... Yet people get away with hitch racks for bikes, where half the time, you cant see the plate or the taillights.
These are those little marker bulbs net to the lights and not your main headlights right? Also, are you headlights (OEM HID correct?) stock with stock bulbs or what?
They are not my headlights. They are the bulbs above the rear plate. They are not stock, but they are by no means blue either. My headlights are OEM HID. No adjustments in color.
The problem you'd have might be that cameras can do a crappy job showing light color and its likely your picture may look more blue than it does in real life. However, as simply a negotiating tool with a prosecutor, it could help. Remember that your first appearance will probably be an arraignment, worth calling the clerk to figure out exactly what you have to do to minimize the number of appearances you have.
If you get actual pictures with blue and white LED's using the same camera settings that should be able to show the difference. Personally, I would take pleasure in owning that ****bag in a courtroom.
Yeah so are state troopers who stick you in their car and quiz you about everything you've done that day! :ugh: (story of my trip) This is a bad weekend to be driven anywhere! I'm suprised he didn't just give you a warning about the lights. Kinda mean to give you a ticket for something petty like that. Hope it all goes good in court and he gets proven wrong.
Also the GS and ES and RX and GX and LX and LS. OH YEAH, THEY ALL DO. Cops are d-bags, this weekend especially. I don't want to go anywhere.
With all the other cars on the road, you think that a brighter license plate bulb would be the last thing he would pull someone over. I seen cops EVERYWHERE lately. I think they are cracking down on people not wearing seat belts.
yeah on my way home this morning (2am) a cop followed me right over by your house dave... he cranked the wheel and flicked the car around to be going the same direction as me, came up behind me like a bat out of hell and ran my plates. i did NOTHING wrong, thank god the prick didn't proceed to pulling me over.
they are pulling people over late at night for any reason they can to catch seatbelt violators and drinkers and drivers.
Umm, Just change the lights back to stock...get the ticket dropped...then go back to the "blue" lights.
I promise you they pulled him over to make sure he wasn't DWI and was wearing a seatbelt. Most cops will use a reason like this when they suspect either, most cops won't give you a ticket for it when they find you're sober and belted. The ethics of this is a whole other discussion.
Its memorial day. Prime time for DWIs. CHP is going crazy in CA as well. Memorial and labor day weekends and time around 4th of July (and winter holidays) are all hands on deck for traffic cops due to DWIs. Very bad times to speed or do anything illegal as there's more bodies out there.
Sounds like a suspected bro rape... Dave - Subies are clearly bad luck for you. Please send me each of your after-market parts for $1 and buy a '89 Civic.
i've seen you bring up bro rape in 3 or 4 posts in the past few weeks. makes me wonder... anything you'd like to tell us?
Yes, that I find the bro rape clip on You Tube to be one of the funniest things in recent memory...and oh so fitting for this forum...and for Pillowpants...aka Curly.
wouldn't it make more sense if you took the pictures when you got pulled over? how is the judge gonna know that you have not changed the lights after you got the ticket? I think if you put back the stock it would just be worse, maybe the judge will buy it if you show that the ones you have on are different than stock but definitely not blue.
