So around 9am at the gas station today, there was this kid who looks around 16-17 maybe? Anyways he comes up to me and asks " Do you drive that black car outside?" I said "Yeah". So he starts talking to me and says (This is typed word for word)"I've been racing alot of imports and no on can catch up to me just wondering if you know anyone around here who's fast?" I said "Uhh what do you drive?" he said "760 Horsepower '77 Corvette All Motor". I laughed and in my mind I was thinking what a prick. Oh yeah the car he drove to the gas station was an old beat up buick. So I said "You're expecting an 8-Cylinder to lose to a Four Cylinder?" He says "I've seen a fast 4-Cylinder before and it was quick with a huge turbo". I laughed and shook my head. Then moved on to the next customer.

haha, just reminded me about this one dude in Wisconsin I met from my GF, he claims his Honda is 400HP and his Brothers Integra Type R is 700HP. I was like sure ok. Well, the dude works at Mc Donalds. So I asked my GF to tell him that I wanted a race. Dude never reply back. After awhile he said his car broke down and had no car. Now thas BS.

Don't Hondas respond extremely well to the sticker mods? I thought the NOS stickers add like +35 hp to the wheels. And they come stock with something like 300 horsepowers now. :hsugh:

The problem with horsepower is that it is so easy to add, I have a coworker that has a Dodge Charger R/T which is supposed to be 340 horse from the fact he says that the dealer installed a cold air intake and now it is cranking upwards of 400 horse. I asked him if he wanted to race me and he said "what do you want me to go in reverse?". Anyway people often overlook weight in the horsepower calculation above charger has a horsepower to weight ratio of about 12.05 while my 03 wrx has a ratio of about 12.5. Charger weighs about 4100 while the WRX weighs 2800.

You suck at math comprehention.

    A 12.05 lb/hp ratio is better than your claimed 12.5 lb/hp ratio (in reality it's more like 13.65 lb/hp).

You are correct, I had it backward higher is worse, that doesn't mean that I suck at math, maybe just general comprehension. I used the same site for the figures for each car being stock factory figures I think that each company lies the same I used the following figures to get my ratio's R/T 4100 LBS/340 HP WRX 2800 LBS/227HP. I am well aware that my car makes less HP and probably weighs more as does the R/T. even given the 13.65 closer to actual compared to the 12.05 (book number) I would think it would be pretty close. I guess my real point is that the owner of the R/T thought his car had something over 400 horse when the SRT8 probably doesn't make those numbers.

some sites give different numbers I saw one that had the R/t at 4250? Aren't these numbers really nominal? I used nominal numbers for my comp, although I failed to realize that the higher number was LESS desireable

I know the stock horsepower number that Dodge quotes is 420 something, but I have seen very few cars that actually hit the number that the manufacturer claims. Subaru claimed the 02-03 WRX's to make 227, but I would bet many dyno much lower than that.

The Dodge/Chrysler PVO vehicles (SRT4,8,10, etc) are notorious for being underrated HPwise according to some testers.

Mfg claims are based on power AT THE FLYWHEEL, not at the wheels. :)
