I have a 2.2 block and wrx heads that is built pretty strong to puch out some hps but the weak link is now the tranny. Is what I can't decide is if I should build the 5spd (new gear set) or do a 6 speed swap. Both have its pros and cons. What do you guys think?

    What 2.2?

NA 5 speeds seem to hold up significantly better than turbo box's, due to the lower final drive. The largest factor is how you treat it. There is a guy running 12.5's on a NA 4.111 tranny.

Its not the speed that I am really worried about. Im 100% sure that it the n/a tranny will turn into scrap metal as soon as I get on it hard.

Trannys just dont like shock, if u can keep the shock down you can do fine. i mean if u roll into the power smooth, it really shouldnt expolode from that type of stuff.

My 6 cylinder makes 1250 lb/ft of torque.
What makes you so sure about it? It's already been said that the difference in final drive causes less stress on the transmission. Also, there isn't really that much difference between an N/A gearbox and the WRX boxes. The 04 got 1mm wider gears and 05 got different synchros in first. The 06+ boxes have a different final drive, and I've seen numerous 3rd gear problems. What are you using the car for? As it's been said already, they do just fine as long as they're not being shock loaded, ie clutch dumping or ham fisted shifting.

Ok here is the deal. I have a engine built to run high hp. mod list..
    ej22t block bored 50 over
    cp pistons 8.2:1 compression
    eagle rods
02 wrx heads ported and polished
    1/2mm oversized valves
    sti buckets
    272/264 cams
    810cc injectors
    fuel pressure regulator with guage
vishnu fuel rails with steal braded lines
t3/t4 turbo (for break in) plannign on getting the gt35r
    Link Plus plug and play
So with that said I will wreck that tranny. I know I can't dump the clutch/do hard launches. with the tranny I have. THE DRIVETRAIN IS NOW THE WEAK LINK.

Do you have a WRX tranny case? You'll need one to run PPGs, unless you have a Legacy SS case, but that gearset runs about $1700 more than the WRX set. The 6MT works, but if you're into dragging, it won't be your cup of tea.

And whatever you do, don't waste your time/money with an RA gearset.
