I have a fairly persistant smell of gas unfortunately. I checked for leaks and I didn't find any gas related. Although, I did notice some small coolant leakage. I plan on replacing the fuel rails and a bunch of hoses soon, with my upgrades. Hopefully, this will get rid of both of these things! And hopefully the engine doesn't seize or anything crazy in the meantime!

Probably the old thread we had about this got nuked in the little forum disruption recently...

This is a well-known issue and there is a TSB for it. The fix consists of a couple replacement fuel pipes and a length of hose. It requires removing the intake manifold.

There was a movement on NASIOC at first to get everyone experiencing this to report it to NHTSA (their Office of Defects Investigation), which I did. Nothing ever happened in terms of turning it into a recall. People whose cars were still under the factory warranty reported varying experiences in terms of their local dealerships paying for all/some/none of the repair.

Yeah, I read what I could on nasioc. Figured it was the same thing. I searched here, but it most likely has been deleted. Somebody on nasioc said he just stuck a long screwdriver down the engine bay and turned one of the clamps on the fuel lines so that he could tighten it. Tightened it and it hasn't happened since. It'd be nice if it was that easy.

I have a '04 WRX wagon, just noticed the fuel smell today too. Looked under the hood to find no gas leaks...but it seems to smell the strongest around my GFB hybrid-bypass valve.

I'll ignore it for today, cause it's way too cold outside. I'll see if it goes away.

Yeah, right over my fuel filter its the strongest...that sounds obvious, but it shouldn't be that strong!

No gas smell today though...not cold enough I guess. No little coolant leak either. Must all be frigid related.

Nah, you just got used to it.

I think it's something I'll put up with since I'll never replace my car. And if I ever go catless, it'll smell way worse all the time!
