i cant remember where i heard this but. someone or some article said that subarus have all aluminum bodies (doors hood fenders etc.). do they?

also i think they have *stock* aluminum blocks and heads.

am i right or just an R tard
    comments and excess information appreciated.

EDIT:: if they were to be all aluminum i would think they would be later on like the 04+ line up not necessarly my Generation or previous ones

It starts with the 2002 WRX and up, for Imprezas anyways. I don't know if Legacys are aluminum or not. The GC/GF body style did come with an aluminum hood in Japan but not in the USA. I do believe the aluminum blocks and heads are correct though.

    At least for the 2004:

Trunk, doors and fenders are steel, as well as the roof. Bumpers are plastic, hood is aluminum.

HAHA, yes, if you have a "FR33 3VAN" magnet, you can test for yourself. The only aluminum panel on your car is the hood.

I think when I bought my 02 wrx, it was said to have an aluminum hood, and most of the body panels were galvanized steel.

Mild steel for the body panels. That is why they rust so easily when exposed to the elements.

05+ legacys have AL hoods and trucks/hatches but thats it
If it was all AL, your insurance rates would be much higher

And the price of the car would be much higher since the price of aluminum is much higher than mild steel.

Aluminum is trickier to stamp as well. I wish they were all aluminum.

I believe the 08 STi still has an aluminum hood. But the rest have the steel.

All WRX hoods are aluminum until i think it was 07 when they changed them to steel. IIRC all fenders/doors/roofs are also steel.
