i want to learn more about the different generations of subie ATs. i know that the wrxs have the 5eat i have heard that RSs have 4eats. so are all impreza autos 93-01 4eat or did they have a switch in there. also what are the diffrences between the trannies. i have heard that the 4eat is a hardier gearbox then the 5eat.
wrxs dont have the 5eat....5 means 5 speed 4 means 4 speed, legacy turbos outback XTs VDCs LLbeans pretty much anything higher end legacy is 5eat, forester even turbo is 4eat, WRX,RS,TS, OBS,baja, and any 4 cyl outback or legacy is 4eat
really, hmm i thought the wrx had the 5eat. but i dotn know much bout em. so the tranyn in my car woudl be the same as the trany in an auto wrx?
i think my chances of finding a high stall TC for my gc are going to be relatively small, but if a wrx one will work then i have some options.
talk to russ...im pretty sure hes running some sort of high stall, if not i bet he has lag like crazy
both russ and i went to pro torque. they mod your stock converter. it drives like u have not done a thing to it untell u step on it and goes your power band.not lagy at all
dont no the web is site but the phone number 631 218 8700 and i think it was around $500. they did a vary good job and would recamend to anyone. i no there is a trade thing going on ware u buy a converter and they drop ship it to pro torque and when u get the moded one u put that one in your car and then u sell your stock one. that works good 4 no down time 4 your ride.
i know that the wrx tranny will bolt up to any ej motor, go to nasioc, and go into the drivetrain area and look at unibombers manifesto on trannies talks about everything you are asking! \ Tim
Pro torque is the best place to get a high stall tc. It's a ton of work though... I was seriously considering for a long time to get one, and all the research I did said, hands down, pro torque was the best. If you can, go on other Subaru boards and see if someone is selling their original torque converter... then you can send that one out instead of the one you've got in your car... and obviously need to drive. I know at one time we had some wrx stock torque converters floating around to do a swap...
