anyone here been to one of the badlands region autocrosses in west fargo? there is one on saturday the 9th of august and i plan to go. registration opens at 9:30. runs start around 11 and the cost is 20 for SCCA members and 35 for non mebers because of the temporary membership deal scca started this year.
I will be there, planning on running as well. Not sure if it will be as good of a turnout as previous events this year due to We Fest, Sturgis and NHRA at Brainerd. What will you be running Greg?
a 94 legacy turbo in STX since i have 16x7 wheels (15x6.5 is stock) and no trunk spoiler. what will you be driving? this will be my first autocross. i have been rallycrossing for about 8 years in a FWD legacy. so it is going to be really odd for me to have so much more grip and not having the noise of gravel sandblasting the underside of my car. on the plus side i wont have to clean crud out of my wheels and i wont have dust filled airvents.
I was thinking about going, but it depends entirely on how late work keeps me out friday night. Quieter / smaller event = more runs!
what is the surface like out there? it has been a while since i have walked wround the midway at the fairgrounds and even then i wasnt really thinking about driving on it.
It is pretty good. We usually sweep it off. the Sheriff's dept does training out there. It stays together for the most part. Toward the end it gets a bit bumpy.. 2 weeks ago there was an ag auction out there. Im hoping most of the dirt has been worn off.
so it might be a little like a rallycross after all. that rain late last week was pretty heavy so maybe it is clean.
Haha, subaru board: I hope the dirt hasn't worn off, in fact I hope it rains heavily too! I'll be coming to this one, got to bump my friday run to sunday evening. Now to figure out what class I am in...
just got home. it was a pretty good time. nice meeting you guys. i plan to do this some more. i prefer the dirt but this is fun too, and a lot closer to home.
i took a couple really lame pics of the paddock. didnt really see anyone with a camera taking action shots.
yeah i am aware the rules are the reason. i missed seeing the part about it having a 2 liter limit in X and no one said anything today. the computer i was using when i filled out the form was unable to read the pdfs for classifications this morning for some reason. well, that means that the other STX drivers really did a good job whomping on a higher classed car. guess i better get some upgrades on there if i want to do well in U. as the car sits now it has 165hp and 180 ft./lbs. i really am not too concerned about class competition though. might as well pull the rear seats and go for SM or something like that then. i cant add much more power but at least i can add lightness. shane hit a raw time in the low 60s with his lotus and i hit a 71 something.
Yeah, not much for an STU car, that's why I run mine in stock, on street tires though, and it eats them scaringly fast. Not sure there are upgrades that will help you keep up with STi's and Evos If I went to SM I'd rather add lots of power I think I'll switch to FSP or smth next year if I'm not lazy and don't go broke, so that I can do some suspension mods, put wider tires and dial in some camber, and do light engine mods. Will probably be less competitive though, but more fun..
yeah if i were serious about points i would put the rusty/leakey trunk back on and mount up my 15 inch tires and wheels and run in HS. this site was pretty hard on my tires today. especially the right front. we had two sweeping left handers. one we took once and one we took twice. if i copied phil's old SS (BAC5.2) from legacy central and did some spendy suspenders on the car it might get close to a poorly driven STi if someone else was driving it. but i dont have the time or money to do that. i have a old version 2 TMIC i need to get mounted up and i also need to get the STi axelback put on the car. still gonna get smoked but at least i will have fun. all this is why i love rallycross so much. we have 3 main classes with 3 levels of prep in each class. AWD, FWD and RWD and then stock, prepared and modified in each class. grip (or lack thereof) is the great equalizer. nice lookin' SS, BTW. that is such a great color and yours looks so clean. mine has had some custom lightening done by mother nature. this was a pretty fun event and it was pretty cool to see shane's exige in action. also cool to see all the old rx-7s do so well. there was a nice variety of cars there. the old british stuff was pretty neat.
Been meaning to try that but always leaving it till next season...sigh. Its just a money shot, not showing the uglyness Gotta repair some rust, repaint the peeling spoiler and get a new hood to call it remotely clean
