What exactly can a bad pcv valve cause your car to do? Run rich? Not start? Bad idle? anyways all help will be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance...btw the car is a my00rs... edit: seems like an easy fix with the wallet also...ill get this fixed asap...now can somebody tell me what a cam 180* out is?
oil pan gaskets, i suppose it could burn some oil, valve stem guide seals... i guess i didnt realize turbo cars had pcvs
Not so much on the bad gas mileage, but you can build up excess crankcase pressure and possibly push oil past seals.
Just pick up one, they are cheap, and easy to replace. Yours will be into the intake manifold in the middle area. Just to the left of your throttle body, if your looking under the hood. It should be grey, or rusty... 19mm wrench or socket.
nevermind i was wondering b/c i redid my timing belt and on my drivers side cam if i spun it to get it to TDC and it passed a certain point the whole cam would automatically spin...but on the passenger side cam i could turn it as much as i want and it wouldnt automatically spin ike the other one? just wondering if that was normal...
if my valves were bent or damaged in any way would the cams be able to spin like that? thanks for all the help...
Umm, it could've happened if the belt broke while you were driving it, but just by you spinning the cams over by hand, I doubt that you would've bent the valves.
The cams can still spin over just fine if the valves are bent, because the valves will be stuck partly open. Why do you ask?
why do i ask? haha actually the story is i am in school in AR and my car died on me...just driving around and all of a sudden it lost power and died..it starts idles for 5 seconds then dies...this happened a week before school started so i had some time to check some things...things that i have check and replaced are spark plugs, wires, coil pack works, starter, checked my injectors b/c i am running so rich that my plugs are already fouled out...i replaced my fuel filter...so i am getting fuel and spark...then i cleaned my IACV valve...didnt do anything...so i got codes read and it was just my front o2...replaced that problem still persisted...so i redid my timing belt...nothing...i gave up and took it to the shop...after a week they returned it and said they didnt know what to do either...sooo i just got my car back yesturday and am ruling out maybe little things such as the pcv....and maybe valves being bent....but however once in a while the car will start and idle w/o dying but run pig rich and the engine sounds fine...no knock ping or pong....i am pretty confused b/c most of the time it does not start...
nope no MAF.....my00 comes with MAP...no CELs right now...only CELs were the front o2 sensor....replaced it already...BTW allsubaru.com only sells them for $63 and its the wideband one... ...the shop said it was a grounding issue but then they said they fixed that and the problem still persisted...so i dont know...i was contemplating a swap but then my pocket is kinda empty right now...
its definately not the fuel pump...i was thinking a FPR but i dont know what the symptons of a bad FPR is and how to check one without actually replacing one...anyone know how to actually check it? is a wrx fpr the same as mine? i see a lot for sale cheap...thanks for all the advice and quick respones....
fuel in the vaccuuuum line means a ruptured diaphragm you would need a running car to test it, fuel pressure gauge + vacuum line on/off.. thats the only way i know of, you'd also need the specs for the fuel pressure at idle in/hg and 0 in/hg
Shiney's right, If you pull of the vacuum line on the FPR, and it's damp inside, you have a ruptured diaphragm. They don't normally cause problems like yours, they normally just cause hard starts/long cranking times.
You may want to get your car to a dealer if you can. They did have an update for the ECM on that car IIRC, and it had something to do with the front A/F sensor.
i forgot to mention that, i think this is prolly a timing issue.. you hear any popping out your intake?
actually sometimes i do hear a loud pop...then sometimes after that the next crank my car will start...however my vacuum line that goes into my FPR does occassionally pop off and when my car died my the vaccuum hose to the FPR was off....anyways thanks for the help so far....
how can i tell exactly? i just redid my timing and it shouldnt be...but then is the popping an indicator?
ok i redid the timing this morning....its not a timing issue? possibility of a bad ecu? is there a way to check the ecu?
maybe you should give everyone more info about your car, It has a custom td04 turbo kit with a greddy emanage ult right? I think you're problem is electrical and it may be your piggyback.
no i already zeroed out everything and disconnected all the forced induction components and everything so i am just running regular vaccuum...just like it was when it was N/A off of the ecu... preparing to pull it out this weekend but just maybe checking little things out before i do...i checked to see if the high flow cat was plugged but it wasnt either...
