I parked my car for the night and when i went to start it in the morning all you heard was a click. I figured the battery was dead so i tried jumping it and nothing changed. So i put the car in gear and rocked it a little to see if there was a dead spot in the starter and nothing changed. I had it towed to Morries Subaru and the starter was completely shot. It was $500 for a refurbished one or like $650 for a new one. Has anyone heard of this happening to an 06 STi with 27,000 miles on it?

Holy jeebus. I could have made my extra '93 starter work. That is pretty damn spendy.

I think its covered under 3/36, I'm sure it was out by time however.

I'm pretty sure Erik is correct. From what I recall, starters are not considered a powertrain item (even though it starts the engine), therefore are not covered under the 5/60k warranty.

Even if you bought the car in 06, if you are not the original owner, the warranty start date is the date the car is purchased from a dealer (not the date you obtain the car). Seeing as the 06's came out in 05, I would venture to guess lots of them were out of the 3/36 by December of 08...

Ya the warranty was for sure out i had a chance to renew it but it was way to expensive and i didnt plan on my started going out. The refurbished starter came from Subaru which is the only reason i went with it.

It's not very common to see newer starters fail, but sometimes it happens. You just got unlucky on that one. We usually get Reman parts from Subaru because either they don't offer new ones anymore, or the new ones have a way higher cost.
