Ok so I drove my car down to Rochester to take my wife to the Mayo for some appointments. First night some ******* decided to run his door into my rear pass door leaving a nice dent and 2 healthy 2 inch scratches. Next day I started getting a weird noise from the rear when ever I get off the gas and roll to a stop. It sounds like a thump or pop every time the tires rotate. Then yesterday the rear strut started clunking like never before and the car feels all mushy in the rear which leads me to believe the strut is busted. This all in addition to my wife's appointments not going very well :(

damn, very sorry about the trip. Is the strut clunking or does it feel like it's sticking while driving at low speeds?

I parked in the Hilton parking lot.

The strut clunks but it kinda rattles. I know they normally clunk, my 04 did it also, but when I go over rough road it just starts clunking really fast. I don't ahve tools or anything to be able to look at it here. What should I look for when I get home? Oil from the damper?

The thump from the rear is what really concerns me, I should be driving home tonight, is any one in EP area able to come over and help diagnose?

    Thanks AWD.

Ahh, ok. The Damon ramp is usually packed with Crown Vics and Buicks that are parked crooked taking up multiple spots or taking "compact" spots. I've actually had to crawl into the car through the hatch a few times because old people park just inches from my car leaving no room to open the doors.

Sorry to hear about the trip man, that sounds rough. Hopefully things work out with your wife, sounds like the car should be a straightforward fix though.

STi's are common for blowing the struts left and right. I replaced both struts at one point in that car when I had it. I think you opted for the extended warrenty when you bought it, right? Try the dealer, see if they will fix it.

As for the clunking, might be the rear dif bushing's. I know the dif would clunk when I shifted hard from 1-2 shift and sometimes from 2-3 shift. Might be the stock bushing going bad. Good luck!

I took the car by Bloomington Subaru on the way back, Greg happened to be working (Didn't know he worked there) we went for a ride, he believes all the fuss is a wheel bearing. I'll be really happy if that's all it is. Thanks for the help Greg!

I have a PDR guy coming tomorrow for the dent.

I'll take you up on the parking spot offer, as it seems we will need to be down there often. Actually I think I saw the tattoo shop while we were walking around. I wish I would have known it was yours, I would have gone in to say hi.

Ok I was just out driving around and the left strut is definitely sticking, it gives the car this weird floaty feeling. I've been looking for some replacement struts but there isn't much available for 05 STIs it looks like either OEM, Coilovers, or some super expensive Ohlins struts.

I was looking at BC racing coilovers, but im wondering if they would be good for a daily driver, or if they will rust out in the winter here. Does any one have these?

coilovers are not always the best choice. if you are going to Scuba's tomorrow or anything, shoot me a PM. if its in the later afternoon i will come over, lend a hand, and i can give you a ride in coilovers and explain the ups and downs for street/DD use

Yea not a problem, just call tomorrow to see if they can get you in. Struts was my other idea for the noise..
