This is my first time ever having a car that actually still has a warranty...so I'm got a question. It'll probably sound pretty dumb, but whatever. Basically I don't want to pay to have the dealership/anyone else change my oil or do any other basic maintenance plus I enjoy doing that work myself :)

So...there's got to be a way that my car stays under warranty even though the dealership or another shop isn't doing the work right? Do I just have to keep documentation of the maintenance?

Keep receipts and put your maintenance stuff in an Excel spreadsheet. An oil analysis by Subaru will tell them if you actually did the change or not. A spreadsheet and receipts are enough to cover your ass.

I don't think it's possible for a manufacturer to void your warranty because you chose to do your maintenance somewhere other than the dealership. I'm pretty sure that's covered under the Magnus-Ferguson Act (or whatever the name of the warranty-claim act is).

I use my.subaru.com. Great site and any work most dealers do will show up in there automatically.

Yeah, I put all my oil changes in there and keep the receipts. I don't plan on going to Subaru for an engine replacement anytime soon, but I'd hope that would work if I ever need to argue my way in to some major work.

I find it hard to believe that everyone on here takes their car to the dealership for every single maintenance. Maybe some Morries employees could chime in...

I've signed up for the my.subaru.com thing and will record everything in there along with keeping all receipts. Is that good enough to retain my warranty?

Basically do what everyone else has said. Keep receipts for all oil, filters, and other maint. items you buy. Then you have proof that you actually purchased the items, and just keep records in your manual, or my.subaru.com of when (date/mileage) the service was done.
