Im sipping on a ice cold Blue Moon right now and grilling some Von Hansen's steaks, does life get any better?:yumyum:
yes indeed. were all about to have a fire tonight and just chill. its a great night out minus the wind
MEh! I took the woman there for our aniversery and honestly thought it wasnt as good as the price you pay for it! But to each his own. coulda been that the chef was hungover too, i dunno but deff wasnt a fan and wont go back! Deck sounds much better!
Last night I was at a friend's place grilling strips that had been "moo-ing" only a day previous. I mean seriously there are steers waiting for slaughter in the pasture across the street from my apartment complex down here. Two 1.5" USDA prime certified black angus strip steaks from the butcher (not aged, $23 for two steaks was enough for a Monday night gathering). Simply sprinkled some coarse sea salt on each side and seared them on each side for several minutes to completion: mine medium-rare to rare and the girl's almost a perfect medium. Had the Blue Moon summer special brew actually and it was pretty decent. Grilled outside with the evening in the low 60s: perfect grilling weather. And one thing I gotta give Dallas is they do know how to grill/BBQ. Who doesn't love BBQ beef brisket? Ruths Chris is great but I gotta say that I prefer cooking my own. Not only is it cheaper but I'm responsible for how it turns out. BTW if you ever visit Wausau, WI check out the Hereford & Hops restaurant. You can cook your own steaks on their big indoor grills (or have it done for you of course) and they also brew their own beer. One of my favorites from my travels.
Anyone ever use Von Hansen's Special Spice? 21345345x better than Lawry's. Von Hansen's ftw otherwise.
Good steak don't need spices... thusly: But yes, grilling ftw. BBQ ribs and pulled pork ftw also. I miss Arthur Bryants, LC's Jack Stack, Gates, etc...
Cab sauv or a nice Malbec with grilled beast. This thread is worthless sans pix of said grilled beast
I acually did take pics, ill post them when I get home. I had the Minnesota Canoe. Tenterloin with swiss cheese, onion and mushroom, yum!
No, it was acually a wrap type thing held together with tooth pics, it was rather tasty I must say! :yumyum:
i still like no name steaks the best. a nice big steak from von hansons is good and i like it but grilling up three no name's is ware its at for me.
Most excellent. I like to carmelize the unyohns and shrooms in a lil' olive oil on the side burner. For brats/dogs, I skip the shrooms and add pepperoncinis.
I have some of the Von Hansen's seasoning, and I'll have to agree, that stuff is awesome. It is also really good on hamburgers. Mix it in with dried onion.
We've grilled the last two nights in a row, and we might have to make it a third. Been drinkin on the cheap lately though. Beer30 dirty thrity packs for 9.99.
Fat Tire is quite good, also Amber Bock is a great standby, and I tried a Maibock last night that really wasn't bad for a wheat beer.
Yes, and lately Negra Modelo Dark has been the beverage of choice out on the deck...sweet sweet 50 degree weather.
speaking of beer. where the heck is there a liquor store that specializes in micro brews or at least has a big selection? preferrably in the SW area.
been surfing this today: www.beeradvocate.com turns out a lot of the stuff I like doesn't qualify as "good."
You're right, maibock's is a great style of beer, but it's not a wheat beer style. Maibock style is typically higher in ABV, mildly hoppy, bitter, and highly carbonated. It's a great spring beer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bock#Maibock.2C_or_Helles_bock
www.arcticliquor.com great place for micro's, but the shipping will kill ya if you don't order volume.
Some of my fav specialty/imports: WITTEKERKE BELGIAN WHITE PAULANER HEFE WEIZEN DUVEL CHIMAY HACKER-PSCHORR Otherwise I'll go for: Stella Primo Redstripe or anything really when on lakes or at cabins high-life especially The beer list for my local municipal liquor store (~1 mile from home). St Anthony Liquor FTMFW :yumyum: www.stanthonyvillagewineandspirits.com/selection-beer.html
