Hey guys I was wondering if you guys can help me out. 1. I recently installed a new PS/Alt belt cuz the old one was all cracking and making its own noises. Now the new one is making a lot of squeaking noises. It's on and off, but it comes back even when I have warmed it up or have been driving for a while. I was thinking I have it on too tight? 2. Other problem is when I let go of the gas pedal, normal driving or simple revving, the RPM/engine dipps low often to about 2-300 rpm then jumps back to 8-900, sometimes even shutting off completely. Any help/suggestions?
I always wondered what the CURE was for squeky belts....because I don't want to use the spray stuff...it suck.
I think I nailed the squeak down to the alternator. I'm kinda still not sure if it is, but that seems to be the area where the squeaking comes from. Unfortunately, on the drive into work this morning, the belt snapped, first :eek4:, now . Now my car is stuck there until i get a new belt on :emo:. I checked everything from what was told for me to check, but nothing. I'm guessing it was on too tight?
if your belt snapped and you have squeaking there is a posibility that there is a component like the alt that is failing this will definately take out a belt. If you get a new belt on I have a belt tension measuring tool, you could drop by the EP hood and I could check it for you.
why? afraid of driving without power steering? the car will run fine just off the battery. and for longer than you'd think! it's not like that belt drives anything really important (like the EA-series subarus, where the alt belt also drives the water pump :eek3: I've never heard of a belt squeeling because it's too tight. that always happens because it's not tight enough. which the combination of the friction from it slipping and the flopping around from not being tight enough could cause it to break.
check to see if any pullies are shot. if one isnt turning it will rub on the belt and wear it away. every car ive owned i had to change almost every pully. ****ty how something so little can cause so much stress
Well, I got a new belt on but still squeaking... I'm thinking it's a faulty alternator now... I don't mind driving without ps BUT I live in Maplewood, I work in Bloomington, I'm not sure the battery alone will run that far during rush hour going home...
