I belive from what I read PPG makes many gears sets from strong gears to straight cut gears to dog boxes. PPG is just the manufacture of the parts. Does that help?
I was under the assumption that Michael had an STi??? I really think the tranny that MOST drivers here in the US should go with is the '07 STi 6spd with Legacy Spec B 5/6th ratios. The car culture here is different, it's not like Japan. Many people will say they hate my JDM 6spd, however I love it. If I was going 500whp+, I'd also look into the Spec B ratios 2-6 because there's just so much more power to pull through each gear even though they're longer. Great to hear that my thread helped. That's the question that gets asked the most. It made the sticky on NASIOC.
I did look into it ^ the price is great and the gears would be great for autocross. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1515045 Thanks this is good info if I end up needing to mod my 5 speed on a smaller budget then the 6-speed swap. I would still like to go with a full sti swap  How well does this work? I've read that for track use the auto DCCD mode is the best. On the 04' sti the DCCD allowed a very strong rear bias. Adjusting from awd to Rwd may be fun from time to time. But I'm looking for the best system to keep the tires from spining. Is that what the Dccd do best and affter market equivelent?
you can have helical or straight cut gears on a dogbox. The term dogbox refers to the engagement system. You can get a synchromesh transmission that uses syncros to line up (speeds) and and engage the output shaft and driving gear. Or you can use a dog egagement system, where there is no "line up" help and the shifting basically forces engagement between the driving and output shafts at any RPM. You need to rev match to shift properly. Also, as i understand, in dog engagement systems, all the gears are always rotating and the output shaft simply has a splined "selector" that is pushed into place to engage and connect the next ratio and said shaft. There is much that I don't understand about the system, but those are the basics I think.
Exactly, thats why that tranny is a ratchet shifter. So you can feel the transmission threw your arm.:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: keeping with the banana theme in here
^ So is driving a manual. Do it extremely well with a car that will redline fast and shifting spot on while sweeping a corner, that takes some skill.
I have no knowledge or recollection of whatever it is you are referring to. Therefore, is must not have happened. I have Spiider's auto controller. It works quite well and the installation is very simple. www.dccdpro.com
buy this!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/04-I...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories contact the seller and buy it up. darn good price! And i agree, dont do a whole harness etc, you are just making a headache for yourself. Go with the spider controller. I will see this summer how much i like my dogbox. itll be interesting at the least my car is also a toy to me and doesnt go to work anymore and will be getting trailered to the tracks and i am sure to the cities as well when we come for a weekend.
Nice ^ :yumyum: that is a very nice offer, I'd like to do the swap this coming winter, since I just got done with the other upgrades. I'm looking for a nice 1/2ton truck for my Daily driver & I really want to find a 07' Sti Tranny.
