I was just wondering who had the BIGGEST rims on thier imprezas. Preferably 2.5 RS's. I think Ive seen 20's on an rs one time, just wondering if anybody has those in minnesota. THANKS
yeah, with bigger daimeter rims you'll accelerate faster   more un sprunk mass = omfg power city
Big rims are not ricer; they are ghetto. You get to please the hip hop crew while making your car accelerate, brake and handle worst thanks to increased unsprung weight and rotational mass. Then when you hit a pothole you pop your skinny tire and dent your expensive rims and get to look like an idiot... The ONLY reason why certain kinds of race cars run large rims is to accomodate big brakes, which is not the case for 99% of all the wannabes running them in the street. Its funny driving through Milwaukee or Detroit and seeing all the crappy cars with 20+ inch rims... You can tell who is driving the car without ever having to look through the windows...
Actually some touring cars and JGTC cars use larger wheels because it reduces unsprung weight. With super lighweight wheels often there is a big weight savings in reducing the tire weight.
OK, I'll bite... And you can also argue that lower profile tires have increased sidewall stiffness. I went to 17" because of that, and for my particular situation (very agressive driving such as autocross) it did make a difference. But somehow I don't think that when people go shopping for big rims for their car they are looking at high end, $3000+ a rim forged racing wheels and non DOT approved R compound tires... So my comments still stand. E.G. I'll bet any money that the 19 inch rims on wrxboy2003's WRX are much heavier than the stock ones he had before, and, although he probably won't admit it, I'll bet his car is slower and has poorer handling as a result of that... But hey, whatever you think looks good I suppose...
