your cruise control blinks and is disabled when you have a check engine lite. get the cel cleared and it will go away

my car does that for a bad 02 sensor.. if thats your case it might explain the loss in mpgs as well

Just bad advise there Matt. We all have seen plenty of these threads. You should go to the local Checker and use there scanner and find out what the code is and report back here. We then can determine what things to look for.

loss of MPG and a CEL have a pretty good chance of being related.

I had it checked at Autozone and it was misfire in cyinder 4. But after I shut it off and started it 2 minutes later the check engine light was off. I asked the guy if he erased it and he said no, I said are you sure you didnt do it accidently and he told me it takes more than pushing one or two buttons.
What is a misfire in cylinder 4 mean, the car is running besides the poor mpg. And the light was on for only about 20 miles of driving and then shut off???

same exact thing happened to me, and I have an 05 STi as well.

happened a few minutes after I left the car wash. I got some K&N sock thing that keeps water out of the SPT intake filter I have. probably the sensor like others have mentioned. my light hasn't come back on since that one time.

I dont wanna turn this into a gas thread, but holiday is the worst of the worst, just because its 93 octane doesnt mean its good, man i would love to see what your exhaust valves look like.

I was always told holiday was good stuff. most of their stations only carry 92, but I found a spot with 93. what do you suggest? BP or what? I want to continue with 93, not many places seem to have it.

A misfire in a cylinder is as simple as just bad gas? The guy at auto zone says something about blowing up an engine. Is it weird that it shut it self off.

Your ECU will turn off the CEL after a number of restarts (can't remember how many), if the original problem that caused the CEL doesn't occur again.

I would start with new plugs and reset the ecu and report back if the CEL reappears. If you want some piece of mind you could do a compression test as the same time the plugs are changed that will save some labor.
