Ill be putting in a short block this Sunday and I was wondering if there are any special or odd tools I will need to pick up besides the usual wrenches? Also does anyone have suggestions on what I should replace with the engine out?
    Here is My list
    1. Head Gaskets
    2. Intake and Exhaust Gasket
    3. Timing Belt

If anyone wants to come out and help, I would really appreciate it. I'd like to only make one trip out to Morries Subaru.
    Thanks:)

Do you have the factory service manual? The headbolt torque sequence is quite different.

I will have to pick up a service manual, dont have one. Does the service manual have all the torque specs?
I DO have an engine hoist so that wont be needed but thanks. Air tools would help too.

Timing belt tensioner, spark plugs if they are due, idler pulley if it's making any noise.

Where in Hastings are you? I might stop by.

DO you know which cylinder each piston goes back into? Kind of important. Also, stay away from the cheap piston ring compressors. They mar the deck surface too easily. Cast iron won't get all nicked up but aluminum does.

Okay, we have everything unhooked from the engine and we have been working at lifting it out of the car for a little while now. We have since run out of ideas as to how we can separate the engine from the tranny and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

We've had two large pry bars on it and someone yanking from the front. Should we just keep working at it?

Should we keep the engine and tranny level or should we have the engine hoist pulling on the engine, tipping it upwards as we are trying to separate the two?

Did you take the clutch fork out? That may be why it wont separate!

it is on the top of the tranny it should be black there is a plug on the left side of the trans mission that you take out then you pull the pin that holds it in out . then take the fork out off the tranny and it should come apart. what I just said probably makes no sense , i am not good at explaining things!

you will need a bolt to screw in to the pin to get it out.
