I have searched this site and other's with limited information found on actual set-up's. I searched for 18g-xt on here and found only 4 created threads. It is a blouch 18g-xt turbo, purchased from Josh at Import Image Racing. I talked with Josh and he is aware that I want a direct drop in to my vf-39. He is also aware of my future hp goals. I am just wondering what kind of number's I can expect with this new turbo on my current set-up 07 wrx 34,xxx miles on stock 2.5 block and heads. Injectors- blue(from what I can see/research, these are the stock 560cc injectors), probably maxed out. My old turbo was a vf-39 set at 20psi. gimmick intake, stock exhaust, stock up-pipe, 3in DP with 3in dp back exhaust (catless) with magnaflow muffler. The only change will be the new turbo. Tranny- Stock for all I know. Not sure if clutch has been upgraded Before I go into the question's, here are my goals. 350hp with equal tq. (I do understand that these will fluctuate with what type of dyno you use) Daily driven, my commute to work is 60 miles one way and is pretty much stoplight free. No I don't drive that many miles every day. It is more like 3xx miles every couple weeks. I am able to stay at work for days on end if need be. tmi (maybe) I have a couple of questions. 1.With my previous turbo and set-up, could the stock clutch hold this much power? If "yes", how much can the stock clutch hold. I am not looking for an exact number, just want to make sure my new turbo at the same boost setting will be enough. My guess would be that the clutch will go before the transmisison. Now I am not talking about dropping the clutch at 5,000rpm in 2nd gear. I am aware of the issues from doing that. 2.Am I correct that the stock injectors are 560cc's? The number that I can read off of them are 0580 630 07 If "yes", is 350hp a reachable goal with these injectors and my current set up? From previous conversation's wtih people, it can be assumed that these are/will be maxed out. I do not know what my previous hp/tq numbers where. I am sure that everyone already knows this but from searching on other sites, there is a ridiculously large amount of conflicting information out there. If you have any suggestions for upgrades, please feel free to comment. I have some headers/up-pipe in mind just waiting for tax return's. The new turbo pretty much emptied my car funds. Not a big deal as I love working..... lol

The number that I can read off of them are 0580 630 07 With your recommended minimum upgrade to 650cc, should I also upgrade my fuel pump? I do have a walbro 255 fuel pump that I am not using. Would rather not modify my fuel pump if I dont have to.
They shoould be 565cc's(your stockers). The clutch will hold the power and the tranny should be fine also. I would recommend doing the injector/fuel pump upgrade so your tuning isn't limited by your fuel...especially since you already have the 255. It's a pretty quick/easy swap. Just have Fuji mod your stock injectors to 700-800cc's and call er a day.
Fuel pump should be a quick, cheap and affordable, mod that I would recommend. It's pretty much a MUST when upgrading injectors.
Sounds like a plan, I have found the fuel pump how to on iwsti and I will tackle that tommorow. I will talk with fuji and see how long it will take for the fuel injector mod. Thanks for the responses.
Now your talkin! As stated, fuel pump should be a piece of cake and Fuji-san is dah man. You'll be glad that you did the fuel system upgrades before tuning it. No reason to tune and then decide to do it, and then need to retune. Plus, you're better off with too much injector. You don't want to max them out. It also leaves you a lil room for future upgrades.
I don't see you hitting 350 with just those supporting mods. STIs of that era with header back exhausts, intake/inlets, ebcs and bigger top mounts seem to be pulling right around 350hp. Interested in how it all turns out though.
Went with a dw fuel pump and 1000cc dw injectors for the new turbo. Should be pretty good. Thanks Josh for the deal!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.............. With my limited understanding of turbocharged cars, I beleive I have a few question's that need to be answered. I pulled the bad turbo and when I pulled the dp off, I began to see something that had me wondering. I noticed the DP did not have a wastegate bleeding side. Pic's will be attached. So my understanding is the wastegate is to bleed off the boost unless you are externally wastegated, which I am not. So this car has been running full boost? If not full boost uncontrolled boost? If no, how does it bleed the excess boost? Either way, pulled the turbo. I noticed the intake side to be coated with oil and coolant. The turn in the intake that goes towards the fender well and then the filter is dry. Exhaust side is dry, cold side to IC is wet with oil and coolant. So are my assumption that it was the turbo correct? Dumped the oil- Good, Dumped the coolant for the turbo removal- Good. No signs of chocolate milk. Pic's are coming. Stand by to Stand by!
More performance out of a bellmouth / divorced downpipe But others have ran that downpipe. Have you seen a stock downpipe?
That design is almost identical to stock. Fully open, the wastegate flapper will clear the blocked off portion. The exhaust gasses coming through the flapper will turn the corner and exit out of the downpipe opening to the right. It's a very restrictive design, but it's not as if the wastegate gasses are completely blocked off as you're suggesting.
My 2 cents.. My buddy out in Idaho is running simuliar setup with a 18g-xt he made 332whp /360wtq on his 18g-xt tuned . Hes just now needing a clutch after a year with some aggression sometimes. lol on stock injectors. your 350/350 goal should be do-able.. Looks like a fun setup. I also second the injector and pump upgrades . Good to be safe , then maxed out on fuel supply. DW 200 and 860cc's are my next mod with many others sitting in my room. Good luck.
^Ding Ding. This is spot on. On an internal wastegate setup (like you are running) this will be similar to stock. IMO, not quite Stage 2. If you're going to an external wastegate, I think you'd be fine keeping this downpipe. Otherwise, I would probably get a different one if you want to get close to 350WHP (which I think is very optimistic with that turbo on pump gas).
My last turbo set up was built by me with bought mazda parts. The inital dp was a corksport divided one. I then went externally wastegated. It has to be the angle, I was alway under the assumption it had to open more than just a crack.
Turbo showed up. Injectors and fuel pump will be here today, just in-time for me to leave for work for the week! Lookin forward to my next 7 day's off!
