I know this question has been posted probally a hundred times, but I could not find it. I want a blow off valve. Do I need to do anything else i.e. more parts, tuning, anything else or can I just install it and thats it. And I am looking for something that sounds aggresive, but is not that loud when just normal driving, kind of only when you really get on it. Brand suggestions, or anyone on hear have a one laying around that could sell for good price. Also does it have any down sides? And how hard is install

all aftermarket full atmospheric bovs are loud all the time, i would suggest an ssqv for really loud under wot, or an RFL...alot of people have forge recirc types which are pretty loud

I have the Greddy Type S and that seems to work for me. HKS,TXS, and Blitz would be another to consider.

haha i think it looks tight... but looks aside, i think its more important how something functions than it looks and i've had no problems with it!

I hear everybody sounding off about what they have and like but what about downsides in performance, or anything else and can I have just a BOV by itself.

i had a turboxs rfl and the only thing i noticed in actual performance was a slight hesitation while shifting. you basically need the bov itself and a plug for the recirculating tube, and possibly new vaccum lines going to the bov... i had to reroute the boost guage hose because the guage leaked a little bit and caused the bov to not have enough vaccum at idle or pressure under boost... i eventually replaced the guage for those wondering

I have the HKS SSQ it is alright, no complaints. Then again the only reason I put it on is because I had it leftover from my Supra when I sold it.

get a 50/50 BOV (50% recirc / 50% vent)... this doesn't heard performance as bad as 100% atmospheric, but still has the "whooshhh" sound. Also, performance isn't decreased much, just a slight hesitation. I have a GFB 50/50 Hybrid and love it. Another great one that is very adjustable is the WORX BOV

I got a GFB one too... it isnt loud unless you get the off throttle just right.. it makes noise but isnt an attention whore...

performance wise there isnt really a gain, most argue you need a tune with it, due to possibility of running leaner...?!?!?! esepcially with FULL recirc... I woul dgo for the 50/50 one if anything...

    either way... research research research....

Sorry just two things I need to correct from the post above:

There is, if anything, a loss in power because you will be running RICHER if you have a BOV that isn't 100% re-circ

this is because the stock BPV recirculates all the air back into the system... when you get a BOV some of that air ends up going into the atmosphere which then means you have less air but still the same amount of fuel... therefore it runs rich!

Yeah, I don't understand why you would ever pay monies for something that would hurt your cars performance...

i heard about a BOV impersonator out there so you get the sound without the performance hit
    why don't you get that:iamwithstupid:
i DO think a good application for that would be something like a minivan or something - can you imagine!

Atmospheric BOV's cause hesitation every time they open because you're dumping metered air out of the system. This causes your engine to run real rich briefly after each shift. This can hurt turbo spool, but not much.

Here's a link to the Forge recirculating ones. These dump the air back into the intake like the stocker so you don't get the rich-running condition. They're supposedly somewhat noisy, though I'm sure not as loud as the atmospheric ones that are designed to make a bunch of racket.

Obviously you are not familiar with the Dodge Turbo Caravan that they made several years ago. I have a friend who bought one, built it up, did a 5-sp manual swap, and then bought the loudest BOV he could find. He would troll the strip and trigger his BOV every five seconds.

anyone that does it... does it for the sound... when i get sick of it I can just put the stock BPV back in, in about 30-40 min.

But for now I am enjoying the vrooom- pshhhh

I only got a BOV because I couldnt use the stock recirculating one in my EJ22T swap. I have the Perrin one. Could have spent like another $50 and gotten the recirculating one.....but damns! Costy!!!

And yes, if you SNEEZE a lot, it drains the fuel LOTS!!
