    sorry chet,

Rice is spelled with an R

I would never want to drive a car that looks like this. if it were not bare carbon, and on a RACE CAR, then yeah...it would be cool.

and furthermore the bare carbon pictured is on an "enthusists" car, it is not a rally car... it is a replica, the interior and everthing is a set up as a rally car.... but this car is a street car.

I find it semi-ironic that you queermo's are saying that carbon fiber NEEDS to be painted, when it defeats the purpose of the material, really. If you're going that route, you're doing it simply for a statement and to say "yeah, its carbon fiber, my p33n is huge like that."

nuff said, I personally choose FUNCTION over a stupid look. Btw, that Launsports STI has the full widetrack set up, so you can take your 285s and still have a narrower track in the long run :p

    I'm no "queermo"

    but your a hot head.

anywho... DRYCARBON FIBER IS ANOTHER STORY......

Dry carbon fiber is sweet, and is actually light!!!! Not only that, you show dry carbon on a RACE CAR, not a glorified street car, When each gram of weight counts on a time attack car or a rally car, this makes sense, but on a daily driver it just looks goofy, tacky and juvenile.

carbon fiber in general is lighter and stronger, which is why its awesome... there's no reason why a daily driver can't be a time attacker.

I like the look of "true" carbon fiber, but feel that the gloss weaved aesthetic pattern added to the mainstream parts it too much and should be color matched when it comes to body panels.

practicality, logic... these are reasons. why is that most carbon fiber hoods for the GD wrx/sti are heavier that the stock alum hood? Come on man, unless you put it on as an especialy tacky way to conserve gas it doesn't make sense.

What gets my goat is when people (stupid people) put carbon pannels over existing stock pannels, such as a roof, or overlys on a dash. It doesn't look sick, it looks silly.

Everybody does stupid things from time to time.

From buying a carbon hood that weighs twice as much as stock to covering the roof with vinyl. Or, as it's been pointed out, putting a baller bodykit on a car with only 227 horsepower that never goes to a track.

You guys are silly. Aside from wings, exterior carbon fiber parts on race cars are usually painted.

The pattern you see parts made out of is usually a 2x2 twill weave, because that pattern is ten times easier to form around complex curves and tight radii. How many people here have actually worked with carbon fiber?

As for dry carbon, yes is it nice and cuts some weight, but part construction plays a significantly larger role in the weight and strength of a part. Dry carbon is just icing on the cake.

The vast majority of aftermarket carbon parts are not made in a way to take advantage of carbon's properties. I could make a hood in my garage that makes most commercially available hoods look like heavy, flimsy pieces of crap.

Well, when the bar is set THAT LOW anything is more powerful. My electric weed trimmer is probably more powerful than your old Honduh.

Also, whoever the Troll OP REALLY is is gettiin mad tyte props from me for starting epically stupid (but thoroughly entertaining) threads.

I wish companies that sold carbon parts would put a thin layer of aramid on the bottom. Aramid is actually stronger and lighter than carbon, and does not shatter on impact. Carbon is just really stiff. Pitch carbon takes it to a whole new level, and is about $60/ft^2.

    No prob.

Just remember, look for parts with a sandwich construction. Adding a 1/4" foam core between two layers makes the part over four times stronger than the two layers together, and adds minimal weight. I've got some samples in my garage that show the hilarious difference in construction.
