boost issues

    I am working on a friend of mines car and when you go into boost it dosnt stay spooled consistantly it spools then stops a sec then spools ? is he running to high of boost for the stock turbo? Or what?

    What car, what mods, etc. Perhaps the wastegate is getting blown open or the BOV is leaking?

    it is a stock wrx with a perrin manual boost controller and and cold air intake and he is running a utec thats it!

    How much boost does he see and when does it stop and spool up or whatever?

    1st guess is overboost. Do you know what psi it is running up to before it drops??

    I HIGHLY doubt you need to spend $100 for a part. I would say that with the MBC and utec, you didn't make the correct changes to allow more than 20psi.

    quits spool at about 16,17 psi

    see if the vacuum lines are pinched
    second, check the solenoid

    Is this on a boost gauge, or the utec?? The utec has boost cut at 20psi. I have seen 3-4psi differences between gauges and utec/ecu.

    the boost guage reads 16 ,17 pounds of boost!

    It's probably the controller.
    One of the members here had the perrin mbc, kept having boost issues.
    Swapped and went with a bcs and everything was fine.
