Is this for real? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TURB...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
A blow off valve is a very important piece in a turbo charged motor, I would not and will not trust an EBAY BOV to do the necessary work that a BOV/BPV is designed to do. I had a knock off and all I got was turbo flutter, it was removed the same night I put it on and sold within a week.
You know the saying about if something seems too good to be true it probably is? See where I'm going with this?
I figured as much but for the low price it was ALMOST worth taking the risk. I have thrown $24 away on a lot less..... But I figured I would atleast throw it on here for people to check out. Everything that seller has listed is dirt cheap but yet he maintains a very good feedback rating. That is the only thing that was convincing that it could be decent.
The $24 dollars would be the least of your worries if you were to damage your motor. When it comes to Ebay, if it's that cheap there is a reason for it.
how much is your turbo worth? How about you motor? Well, they are worth alot more than what your saving if you got that BOV, and turbo flutter.... that BOV ain't worth pssshhh...
In your case since I know what you drive I would recommend an upgraded BPV, forge makes a really nice one for the LGT and so so other companies. The stock one as you may know is plastic and I hear is very cheap and sometimes leaks.
I honestly don't even know what a BPV is. I can either look it up or someone can tell me. And yeah, when working with ebay I only buy parts by name brand if they are important parts. Things like exhaust or a CAI I have been known to go for cheap.
But being as this was well over $200 under the normal cost I figured I would post it. Just seems like they couldn't even manufacture the part for that price.
By pass valve = BPV it refers to a valve that is fully recirculating vs. venting to atmosphere. With a recirculating valve you get that in rush surge of air your ECU expects at throttle close. With a vented to atmosphere one your car can run worse (depending on the make) and you will have the tendency to throw flame at shift or throttle close and re-open. This is because the ECU expects that in rush air but doesn't get it and still pumps the same amount of fuel to compensate for that air charge. I have driven/ridden in cars that ran flawless with a BOV, mine being one. Jeff (WREXINATOR) came over and I tried his TurboXS one on my car, it ran perfect exept for the air/fuel ratio's at WOT (wide open throttle) so I put my Forge BPV back on. In fact I am running the stock WRX BPV right now cause my Forge was sticking open when it was below 0.
Well thanks for the help everyone. I will do some more research and decide whether to go with a BPV or BOV for my LGT.
An adjustable unit may be a little better than the one I had. A TiAL style BOV is more dependant on the smoothness of the guide and piston as far as how quickly such a large valve snaps open. There is a reason the genuine unit is PTFE coated and uses an o-ring on the piston that does not stick.
I came across this message on one of my tuner megazines the other day. "Dont be a cheapass. Do it right the first time. It'll be cheaper in the long run"
This is why research is so important. Not to rag on you, but if you're considering buying something for your car (especially for 24 bucks on Ebay) don't you think you'd want to know what it does and whether or not it's important, and what the consequences could be if that part doesn't function as advertised? +1 for you taking the time to research now. It'll only benefit you in the long run
Not to intentionally keep this thread going, but I did know what a BOV does. It was the Bypass Valve that I hadn't heard of. And I wasn't seriously considering putting the $24 BOV on my car. I just didn't see how even a crappy BOV could be sold for such little money. And I wanted the experts to chime in. Believe me, I would never put anything on my car without doing some research beforehand. But being as I do own a subaru and this is a website called MNSUBARU chances are good that I am going to be doing a lot of my researching through here. Whether that be using the included search engine or asking questions. I am also aware that there is a wealth of knowledge hidden under piles of misinformation everywhere else on the web and I do a fair job of searching there for what I need as well. And yes, the only way to learn is to read and do. What good is buying a part for your car and having someone else put it on if you have no idea what it does. Then you are just throwing away money and you are going to end up looking like a d-bag down the road. This isn't my first car that I have modded. It is just my first turbo car and with the turbo comes a lot of parts that I am not familar with YET. So I appreciate everyone on here's continued support and I will do my best to find out anything I can before I ask any questions of you guys. Now feel free to end this thread. Thanks, Pete
