okay no flames please........I know a BOV is a no-no for a wrx, but somehow I just want to get one and use it every once in a while. I saw a video of a WRX in Japan w/ a bov and it was bad-ass. My questions....... -Is it easy to take it off and on? -What are the risks of doing that? -What's a good brand? -Anyone got one you wanna get rid of? thanks!
-If it was from japan I would guess it was either the hks or the greddy. -Taking a BOV off takes about 3 minutes, 2 of which are spent letting the car cool down. -HKS,Greddy,TurboXs(ibhate), ... the list goes on... I dont know of any *bad* bov makers now that I think about it.
well. i have the tial right now and is sounds the business. i have a worx version 2 for sale in the member for sale thread.. it's new, gunmetal coatd, and cheap. alot of people hear a big turbo sti, 240sx, supra or gtr with compressor surge. they get intreigued with the noise, ask the owner what bov he is running, and buy into a bov unit that is not going to sound at all like they expect. just my opinion.
it surged on my 20g. nothing to do with the worx bov at all. i swapped turbos and wanted to do tial, as my kit has no recirculatory provisions. http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12130 $180 and it's your.
Bov's are not as much of a no-no as a AEM CAI. It's not going to hurt your car, but as the stock one will hold up to 19-20 psi, there's no reason to replace it. If you don't have a short ram intake, maybe try one of those. You can hear the recirc valve pretty clearly. If that's not good enough, APS, Greddy, TurboXS, Worx, GFB...and the list goes on, all make a good valve. Something you may want to consider is an adjustable valve that can vent recirc, and atmospheric. That way you can make it go all the way recirc, for when you get annoyed by it, or all the way atmospheric when you want to go "Fast and the Furious" loud!!!!
i will sell you my turboxs type-h rfl with plug for $120... it's loud and takes about 15 minutes to swap... i've had it on for about 8 months... it's really fun to scare people with it i'll even bring tools so we can swap it where we meet matt
Putting one on a stock wrx is a BIG NO NO... the way i understand it, is that adding a BOV will dump fuel on shifts, over cooking the first cat (up pipe) causing it to fail and fall apart into little peices that get devoured by the turbo and cause that to go to hell. it becomes very expensive, very quick. this is of course worst case scenario, but very possible. if you just want that sound, get a good quality intake, and switch to a forge Diverter valve. Trust me, you'll hear it.
