Ok, i was checking out a porsche last night and just got to wondering what manufacturers used boxer engines. so far here is what i can think off: Subaru (everything since the 3 cyl justy) Porshce (i have no clue which porsches have the boxers) VWs ( i think the vanagan had a boxer) any more?
that's basically it. Porsche is the only other company besides VW to make them in significant numbers
saab uses (d) the WRX platform for the 92-x. the engine is made by subaru. i think i have heard of those BMW bikes before, although i have never seen one.
no its still a boxer engine. its the exact same enigne as in the WRX (for teh 92-x Aero) or 2.5RS (in the 92-x Linear).
the WRX has to be lighter. from the start a wrx wagon wieghs 100lbs more than a wrx sedan. granted it s not that much but then you add the saab parts like leather and more and more options, it just keeps getting heavier.
I think our list was originally for cars. And yeah, the 9-2x is a rebadged Impreza but with a better steering wheel cover. And the (slightly) faster steering rack out of the STi. Mine is the same weight as a regular Impreza because I skipped leather and 17"s. Many BMW motorcycles have boxer engines. MotoGuzzis are actually Vs, not boxers. They are just mounted sidweways instead of front to back. Ural motorcycles are boxers. They are Soviet BMWs. At the end of WWII, the Soviets looted the BMW factory in Germany and stole all the tooling. For the past seventy years, they have been making 1930s BMW motorcycles.
Not really, Moto Guzzi engines slant upward ... like a Harley turned sideways http://www.motoguzzi.it/servonline/news/dettaglio.asp?indice=215
^^ i read an story in an online forum, i cant remember which one it was. but anyway the guys plans were to put an ej20 into a civic. it turned out to be HUGE amounts of work, they needed to fab up a whole bunch of pieces like x-members and stuff, he also had to make room for the driveshaft. i never heard if he got it running.
Sounds like something a typical dumb Honda ricer would do. I mean, why not just install a carbed Chevy 350 in a used '81 Civic? Reminds me of the kid I met with a base Civic and coffee can muffler bragging he could take my SHO. He said his car did 0-60 in five flat. Maybe off a cliff...
I realize that this is going outside the original specs of the thread, but Lycoming makes boxer aircraft engines in 4, 6 and 8 cylinder configurations with turbo and N/A options. There are probably a few others, but they're the only ones that come to mind right now. Just doing my part to expand the horizon
God, that'd be crazy. We joked in HS about 350s in Geo Metros, but you'd have to be really drunk for weeks straight to go through with the project.
