Hey guys, I am looking to get some advice on new brakes for my 05' WRX. Let me preface this by saying if there are any other threads like this, I'm sorry for the repeat but I couldn't find anything like this.:biggrin: Let me know if I'm just stoopid. Here is my question for you guys, what pads and rotors are you currently using, how do you like them, and what would you recommend for my situation? I use my car as a DD, and plan on doing maybe one or two driving events this year. As of right now I'm looking at getting some Hawk HPS pads, but haven't a clue where to start with the rotors :???:. I've figured the pads will run me around $200, and for the rotors I would like to stay around (or under) $500. Any help would be fantastic! thanks!
For rotors just get Brembo blanks, with good pads and a proper break in they will be as good or better than most other rotor out there. What kind of driving events are you going to do? For track days you should get a set of track pads made for road courses. For autoX get a set of good street pads. I use cross drilled brembo rotors (for weight reduction only) with Hawk pads. I can't remember which ones are on the front and which ones are on the rear, they are different to give better brake balance.
What kind of events? Track days will have different setup recommendations than say rally rally rally rally rallyx.
The Hawk HPS with a cheap set of blanks will be very very good. Most of the performance is in the pads.
Frozen Rotors are a great addition to a street driven or tracked car, or you can buy a set of cheapo blanks and have them cryo'd. Like Eli said, most of the performance (especially in a mostly street application) will be in the pads.
+1 for Frozen rotors. They are local (in Burnsville), they give us discounts, and they sell hawk pads. Give Mark Link a call, tell him you are parts of MNSubaru and see what he comes back with for a price. Those rotors will probably outlast the car. Russ
I have stoptech rotors, hawk HPS pads, and stainless lines and I love them. My old car had just cheapo parts store rotors and Axxis pads. It was pretty good for a setup that cost me $100 for the front.

Metric auto in Woodbury I use HPS for street/auto-x I use Carbotech XP10s for track, though I may need XP12s, though is this isn't that useful as my car is heavier.
Best advice is to learn to drive w/o them first, get a nice set of tires and good brake fluid. You can use the AWD to help slow you down plenty for them turns. But thats just me.
Most of them are power slot blanks (which are brembo blanks), or oem blanks if you do not want the slots. Russ
