some one posted this on my local forum:

    http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106147

    Quote:
My car was in the bodyshop after a minor fender bender. You may or may not remember, but my car has a dashcam. During the week they had it:

    - Two of the techs driving it across the parking lot discussed "Would you rock this car? Do you wanna rock it?" "What if this camera is running?" "Oh. We're just joking!"

    - Two other techs drove it across the lot (were supposed to move it 20', but took the long way - around the building) The driver mentioned that the clutch was like a racing clutch, then he floored up to redline in first through the parking lot. Then he said words to the effect of; "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to do this..." and from what I could make out of the conversation he was planning to dump the clutch around the corner to get an all wheel peel. As he came around the corner he backed off for an oncoming car, pulled up alongside this car and spoke with the driver (the boss?), and as they drove away again the driver talked about it being a close call. Then they drove thought he lot again at WOT and talked about the turbo having no BOV. He proved this by revving it to redline a couple times in the parking space. The passenger joked about how funny it would be if the camera was on. Driver didn't think it would be funny. (I agree with the driver - not funny)

    - Bodyshop manager accidentally backed the car into a pile of empty boxes someone had stacked in the doorway. No damage = no harm/no foul.

    - Same two techs took it out onto the road for a 3 mile drive. I know that the alignment was checked as part of the repair work (The accident damaged the wheel) so this *may* be the after-alignment road test. Having said that, the driver floored it up to redline in first AND second as soon as he got onto the road. At that point I stopped watching the video and started burning it to a DVD so I can take it to the dealership's General Manager. It was more important that I go through the process of preserving the evidence than watching it immediately. Kinda like putting up police tape around a crime scene.

So, I still have to watch the rest of this 'road test' (Top Gear style, apparently) and then check another two car journeys listed in the DVR.

Funny thing is, this WOT 'road test' (with the two giggling prepubescent techs thrashing $18k of my hard-earned money around the streets) happened at about lunchtime today. When I arrived at the bodyshop at 5pm to pick the car up they said it was "out on the road test from the alignment". The car only did 3 miles while in their custody so it's not like they were driving around for 5 hours. I wonder if they had the alignment tech do the road test at 5pm. If so, what legitimate reason did Beavis and Butt-Face have to even be out on the road, never mind burning up my clutch?

When I got the car home (and I drive like my grandad) my clutch REEKED. I suspect the rest of this road test (when I get to watch it) will be quite interesting. I also noted that when I arrived the camera mount in the front of the car had broken loose from the window (GPS suction cup) and been remounted in the wrong place. I hope they didn't do anything extreme enough to much the camera loose.... :-O

(*Side question to dealer techs: Is it normal to discuss such things as; "Do you wanna rock it?" when you would never, ever actually do something like that?
Why would they say that if it's something they would never actually do? Example: I would never mug an old granny - and therefore would never have reason to say to my friend; "Hey, there's an old granny... Want to mug her?")

WTF!!! I would be more than pissed off. That is not good business at all. I wonder if they do this to all of their shop cars.

I would give this to a news station with your story. That is just f**ked up. You could do so much with this video!!
Was this warrantied work? Did you have to pay anything to the shop out of pocket?

**EDIT- At 1:25 of the video, it looks like the passenger takes something out of the cup holder, talks about it for a minute and then puts it in his pocket. What was it??

Yup. Superior Collision in Eagan put over 20 miles on my car the first time they had it. Only 10 the second time (fixing their mistakes), apparently they were bored with it.

LOL. Superior is the worst body shop ever!!! That is way too many miles to have put on the car when it's at a shop. Just ridiculous!

I'd like to know what his camera system consists of. I may consider it.

Yup I bet this happens all the time. It would be a good idea to have a camera in the car for just this sorta thing.

I am interrested as well, it would be handy to have a camera set up like that for several reasons. I remember awhile back there was a guy that had a camera mounted on his seat next to his head, seemed like it really pissed the police off! Gotta wonder what type of camera would resist the water from the carwash?

wow... Those guys are so stupid. Camera pointing right at them.

I would be pissed. I hope this guy raises some hell at the place he took his car. Not cool to abuse his car behind his back, or take his stuff. I hope those tools learn their lesson.

After reading all the links of the camera setup trickery, I think it would be easier and cheaper just to do a valet flash that sets fuel cut at 3500.

Still would be a lot more fun to watch, but that's a lot of work to get that stuff up and running.

Saw that suggestion too - zeroed wastegate tables and 3500 rpm fuel cut. I like that idea, too. But the cam setup is also sweet. Did you see the accident he caught on it?

Good way to ensure less damage. Unless they think it is broken becuase it wont rev over 3.5k and try to flog it past there anyway, or worse yet... start taking it apart to see what is wrong.

"I'd rock it" is slang for "I'd drive one of these as a personal car if I was given the opportunity." It is a compliment, not a "I want to beat the **** out of this car" thing.

True, but then again they proceeded to flog on it, and the one dude who's in all segments said, "Don't rock it too hard" as they were, well, rocking it, so to speak. ;)

My friend brought his 97 Dakota to Firestone in up here in Duluth to have an alignment done and his new tires put on and balanced. The Dakota has a T70 turbo in the bed and has the 318 V8 with a 5 speed. It is a very fun truck. He brought there for his scheduled appointment at 1 pm and they asked him if he could do it another day and he said no. They told him itd be a few hours before it was done and they'd call him. He got a call at about 4 something saying the truck would be done in about 50 minutes or so and to head up then. He got a ride up a little bit before the 50 minutes was up, pulling up in PERFECT time to see one of the tech's sliding it sideways bouncing it off the rev limiter down highway 53. He and his lady friend who was giving him a ride tried chasing the tech down 53 and couldnt even keep up with him he was driving so fast so they went back to firestone to raise hell. He demanded the manager (there wasnt one there anymore for the day) and told the guy in charge what happened and what he saw and they waited for the tech to come back, who obviously denied beating on the truck and it wouldve been a word against word deal until another tech stepped up and came out and said "yeah i saw him beating on the truck" and the tech who did the driving was immediately kicked out of the store. The guy in charge told him to come back and see the manager the next day and he'd get a free set of tires or something and that he wasnt going to charge him for any of the work done that day. I told my friend to take them to court or something more then go for a free set of tires...

It's sad you cant trust bringing your car anywhere anymore. The tires plus tech's beat on my audi a few years ago and left my hood open(it was there to have snow tires swapped on-why was the hood open in the first place?)

When i bring my Wrx in for an alignment i am sitting back there and watching if they dont let me take the keys with me to sit in the lobby. They can sit in the passenger seat for the "road test" while i drive.

Fortunately I have a couple of friends that are mechanics and my wife's dad is a mechanic so my car never gets worked on by people I don't know and without me there. (plus getting discounts on everything is ALWAYS good)

Damn, that is pretty involved system, and isn't cheap either.
