    What's up everyone.....

I just wanted to get eveyone's opnion on this. I am as eveyone knows in the process of restoring my 93 impreza L, and the idea for me is to sell it for at least 2500$ and sell my other car for 1000$, and then putting it all down as a down payment for an 02 wrx because that is the only one I can probebly get at a good low payment. Then after I am done with what's left of college trade it in or sell it which ever to purches an STi. But another idea is insted of getting the 02 model which I don't really like becuase of the headlights, getting an 04 WRX and sticking with it till it can't run no more, which would mean NO STi and a little more on the payments, But also I would be happy because any mod I do is going to be final, where doing anything to the 02 wrx if I got it would be pointless because I am not going to keep it...So which one do u guys suggest.......

I do understand that I should give alot more info if I a want and exact answer from eveyone, but I don't what to bore u guys anymore......so just from this general point of view on my situation what do u guys think....

My opinion, if you are considering putting alot of labor/money into modding the wrx, and if you have the money, just by pass all of that and step into an sti. However if you do not have the funds to get an sti, i am sure you would be happy with a stg2 rex which will only cost you a few thousand worth of mods, anymore than that and you are starting to really push the tranny.

When I was first in the market for a WRX, I was looking at getting a used 2003 model. However after looking at the monthly payments, I realized that the payments were actually going to be cheaper for a new car because

    a) I could get a MUCH lower APR % on a new car vs. a used one

    b) I could extend the repayment period from 36 mo. to 60 mo.

    c) Even with nearly twice as long of a repayment plan, my total amount of interest paid over the life of the loan was less on a new car due to the lower APR (2.9% vs ~ 7-8%)

That is exactly what my brother is saying too Tom. I might just do that, get a new WRX.

If u guys remember this is why I asked about anyone who is a sales person from a subaru dealer, so I can have there opionion. I will see

If the payments are still too high, just find a MY02 WRX with Sti projectors. Waaaaay sexy! :D

Yea, Subaru has been having GREAT interest rates for their new vehicles. I wish I would have gone for a new car rather than the used RS I bought.

What year is a stock 5th gen? And what trim are you gonna get?

FYI, there are a lot of younger guys looking (and knows how) to steal your car when it's finished. [xx(] That's one reason why I went Subaru.

I was starting to slightly regret not getting an STi instead of the WRX until I hit BIR and saw just how capable the WRX really is. Of course I couldn't keep up with the STi that was up from Iowa (very lightly modded) but it was fun chasing down a couple M3's.
For strictly street driving (my wrx is a daily driver) the WRX is really quite well balanced - you miss having the torque/throttle response below 3500 rpms (though the '06 might be better in that regard if you can stand the redesigned fascia) but your power band is well matched to spirited but _legal_ driving. I think if I were driving an STi daily (as I still would like of course) I would be breaking the reasonable speed envelope at least once every time out in the car. }:) On the other hand if I did a lot of track events I would want an STi, and will probably start doing alot more of them if I end up getting one in the next few years as I hope to.
Short answer: get an STi if you want a _fast_ car. get a wrx if you would rather just have a _fun_ car to drive daily that won't eat up as much of your paycheck every month.

hope that helps! good luck and make the right decision _for you_ :)

glad to help. I would strongly recommend you test drive a Forester XT and a wrx in the same day if you aren't going to wait for the '06 wrx - the FXT is one torquey (?) machine. try fifth gear on the freeway at 50mph and mash the throttle and see what happens (be safe!). You'll see what I mean (try this in both cars). The Forester's body roll gets a little scary on the on-ramps, but it depends on what you want. Just more stuff to ponder.
[edit] oops forgot you were going '02 - it's 6am where I am now (Uppsala, Sweden) and I'm still waking up. you should still test drive the FXT just to understand the difference if you haven't already. good luck with your L - hope I can see it when you're done

You are absolutely correct. 5th gear feels a lot like my 3rd gear in my low 15 second Impreza RS (just that it is at a higher MPH) :D

Hey Fong, did u see ur car, it's on carsoup. At least I think it's urs, but they don't have a pic yet...I might buy it..hehheheheheh..

Hey guy's take a look at the red 2.5rs for sale on carsoup, I think it's looks great with very low miles, with that low price I would have no problem buying it...BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM IS "NO TURBO"...I do have to admit that it' gives me many ideas..so I might stop by that dealer and take a look at it...
