Sorry if this is a re-post, but I thought it was pretty MNSubau Worthy...
Not that I condone or support driving like this, because THIS WILL GET YOU KILLED and/or arrested... It is, however, pretty impressive...

    Back STory:
The film shows an eight-minute drive through Paris in the early hours of the morning, accompanied by sounds of a high-revving engine, gear changes and squealing tires. It starts in a tunnel of the Paris Périphérique at Porte Dauphine, with an onboard view from an unseen car exiting up on a ramp to Avenue Foch. Well known landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe, Opéra Garnier, and Place de la Concorde with its obelisk are passed, as well as the Champs-Élysées. Pedestrians are passed, pigeons sitting on the streets are scattered, red lights are ignored, one-way streets are driven up the wrong way, centre lines are crossed, the car runs on a pavement to avoid a rubbish cart. The car is never seen as the camera seems to be attached below the front bumper, judging from the relative positions of other cars, the visible headlight beam and the final shot when the car is parked in front of curbstones on the Sacre Coeur hill. Here, the driver gets out and embraces a young blonde woman as bells ring in the background.

This is one of my all-time favorite films. Turn up the volume for pure Ferrari aural sex.

Rumor is that the driver of the car was a Formula 1 driver; however, the filmmaker has vowed to keep the name of the driver annoymous.

the driver could have killed someone too, since when he went through the gate at the louvre he had positioned a guy with a radio there to tell him if there were any pedestrians.

Turns out the radio never worked

I forget the details (this has been around a long time), but the engine sound is dubbed. The car used was a Mercedes 450SEL with a 3-speed auto, and was dubbed over with a Ferrarri 275GTB with a 5-speed.

I prefer Nissan's remake. This is alright, but the POV gets a bit old after a while. "The Run" used more cameras to liven it up a bit. Hmm, wonder if I still have the DVD on my desk here somewhere.

    "The Run"

It's OK. A lot of driving in a straight line at the beginning. As much as a Nissan fan as I am, it's pretty blah if you ask me.

I remember reading that the Chief-of-Police hauled the driver in and threw at him a full list of charges. But then dismissed them all because his kids loved the film so much. Different times.

I bet my copy's a lot better quality than yours :p

And yes, it is indeed sitting here on my desk right where I thought it was. I think I can spare 7mins to kick back and watch it again. Hmm, what does it say about me that I have a legit DVD version of this at work ? No, don't answer that.

the director was arrested, but the driver has never been revealed although there are lots of stories about who was actually driving.

And now it's sitting in my office bookshelf, right next to Clarkson's Heaven and Hell DVD, so it won't get buried under a mountain of paperwork again. Well at least not for a while, anyway.
