I'm looking into purchasing a 04 wrx. But I noticed that driver side has fog lights and the passenger side has the fog light covers. The guy said "that's how it needs to be for CAI." Any responses or comments would be helpful! Thanks!

It makes sense why they did it. I would also run away... or figure out what mods they have and how they supported/tuned them. IF done right you might not have to worry. You can always nab the car and bring it to somewhere like NF to have it checked out before you buy it.

The car is from Omaha, NE. So wouldnt be able yo get it checked out before i buy it. He gave a me list of mods done. Just not quite sure it's worth the trip.

With a cai, the intake/filter are in the fender, the general idea is to get as much cold air in there as possible. The stock ram air scoop or whatever it's called would direct enough cold air into the fender if it was still installed. Cai are a waste of money imo. Stock airbox works just fine unless you're trying to push some serious hp.

A good start is to figure out how they tuned the car as well to support those mods. Their answer will often let you know how much they knew about what they were adding to the car. In this case they spent a few hundred dollars on a part that "made noise" vs having large functional gains.

Just ask them what kinda of CAI it is and then ask them who did the custom tune. If it is not a custom tune (based on which CAI), run away. Almost every CAI made will effect the diameter of the pipe, so that will skew the maf sensor and most likely make the car run lean.

Alright, so it's a AEM CAI, tuned at Russ's Garage.
